NFF Target Akpom, Ibe For Super Eagles

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has set eyes on two promising English Premier League stars, Arsenal’s Chuba Akpom and his compatriot in Liverpool Jordon Ibe, as it desires to engage young players both at home and abroad in its rebuilding of a new Super Eagles.

Both players of Nigerian parentage, who came through the English youth team, are eligible to star for England.

As a matter of fact, both have recently attracted attention of pundits and analyst, with many requesting that they be capped by the Three Lions.

But NFF’s President, Amaju Pinnick, said that the duo were among the youngsters in the radar of the federation.

He said the Super Eagles was lacking in hungry players and also ones with the right motivation to contribute to the success of the team. He promised to overhaul the team, saying that the federation would look beyond current squad members in its rebuilding process.

Pinnick, according to AllAfrica.com noted that absence of national morale, selflessness and hunger were the bane of the Super Eagles dwindling performance, which players at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea displayed in large doses.

“The rebuilding process will start in earnest. We want to build a strong national team where the players will show passion and hunger to represent their country.

“We need to have some younger players of Nigerian origin who are doing well across the world in our team.”

The NFF boss said the federation would embrace universal trend of building the national team around players between the ages of 18 and 22.
