NFF President Amaju Pinnick has called on players of the U-20 National Team, Flying Eagles, to go all out and grab a World Cup ticket when they file out against their counterparts from Congo-Brazzaville at the 19th African Youth Championship in Senegal on Wednesday.
“It is great to start with three points, with the win over the host nation on Sunday. We are happy with that. But it is important that we go all out against Congo-Brazzaville on Wednesday and wrap up a ticket to the World Cup.
“We cannot under-rate the Congolese. Yes, we have a capable team, but when you get too confident, you can get a sucker punch. It is important that we play it like the championship final and earn the ticket to the World Cup early.”
The NFF President has spoken to Head Coach, Manu Garba (OON) and his assistants and will also pump up the players’ spirit before Wednesday’s tango.
A win against the Congolese, who defeated Nigeria in the final to lift the trophy on their home soil in 2007, will guarantee the Flying Eagles a place at the FIFA U-20 World Cup finals coming up in New Zealand, May 30 – June 20 this year.
