NFF: We Will Never Impose Super Eagles Players On Rohr

By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:                      The Nigeria Football Federation have reiterated their resolve not to interfere with the work of Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Amidst calls by football fans for the Eagles coach to extend invitations to at least two players of the Super Eagles B team who shone in the friendly game against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, Chairman of NFF Technical and Development committee Ahmed Yusuf Fresh has stated that Rohr has the final say.
“It is not our style to interfere in the selection and invitation of players, whoever to coach wants he gets,” Fresh told CSN.
“We won’t force any player on the coach. We don’t do that and we won’t start it now.  If he feels he needs more  players, we will oblige him.
“We saw some players who excelled against Atletico Madrid and the coach also saw them. I don’t know whether he was impressed as to want to invite them. If he wants of the boys, he will notify us but we won’t force him to include any player.”
Fresh said that the entire team impressed him but picked the Nwakali brothers, Chidiebere and Kelechi, Usman Mohammad and captain of the day Musa Mohammed as exceptional in Uyo on Tuesday.
The players in question can only be included in the World Cup squad if any of the 23 in the final squad is forced to withdraw through injury.

Nwakali can give competition to mikel. Uche agbo cannot. So drop him.

  • @chima. U b witch?

  • Chima E Samuels 6 months ago

This one na good witch make Agbo Agu and the bad players in the team get injury so that kelechi and co will get drafted Sharp sharp. Abi na only me dey pray this one?

  • Ayphillydegreat 6 months ago

Those are the four players I suggested should be in the main SuperEagles team for the WorldCup preparations. E be like say Yusuf Fresh been dey read my post for here. I have absolutely no idea how Agbo and Agu should be in the 30 Man list and the Nwakali brothers are not!!!!!!! Usman Mohammed is way better than Ogu IMHO. WHEN was the last time any SuperEagles midfielders scored those kind of goals???? Musa Muhammed to me is ideal right back the SuperEagles need going forward. It’s quite embarrassing that our first choice right back is actually a Defensive midfielder by trade. For a SuperEagles right back to be benching a SuperEagles DM at club level is totally beyond me. Infact I’m glad we played that friendly against Atletico with fringe players to know that the main SuperEagles team have got a lot of to do. All the same I will still support whoever makes the final 23 #FLY LIKE AN EAGLE INTO THE FUTURE#

Ayphillydegreat, Bro pls don’t excuse those corrupt, lazy NFA guys, who is there main scout, who invited Agu, Ogu, Agbo,Akpeyi.everybody knows Kelechi is the future of super eagles yet the guy wasn’t invited.

  • Bestsports. 6 months ago

We all want to see Ajiboye against congo DR because we want to observe him openly. Ajiboye was as well a European based goalkeeper too. Play him and he could become number one. Or finally drop him FOREVER. We all want to see kelechi against Congo.

  • Don’t know why people because of one match and started clamouring for their inclusion. What if they were eventually invited and did not live up to expectation. I don’t have anything against those guys but I honestly don’t think this is their time. You guys equally knows that too but just that most of you are talking out of sentiments. We should remember what happened to us at Korea/Japan 2002 world. please let’s be guided.

    • Ayphillydegreat 6 months ago

You are the one who is actually talking out of sentiments. Not many players can score that kind of goal against Jan Oblak. The best goalie in Laliga and top three in the world. Not many player can dominate Atletico in the middle of the park. Ask Arsenal, Madrid and even Barcelona they will tell you. Apart from Mikel, Ndidi and Obi. Maybe Etebo to some extent no other midfielder on that list is better than Nwakali brothers. Chidiere is way better than Onazi and Ogu. Don’t even mention Agu and Agbo because it is glaring that Kelechi is way better than them. I they’re part of the chopped 7.

I agree partly with you Ayphilly. But check this, at a time when everybody is naming their first 23 for the mundial you are still asking us to test new players because of one single match? Kele Nwakali has done well but remember this is just a friendly. If this were a cup final do you think Nigeria would have scored a single goal in that match judging by the pedigree of ATM? Usman was at the Afcon u23 and Olympics and throughout over 10 matches he never played better than Etebo. It is unfair to argue that Usman should be at world cup over the likes of Etebo just because of one match. If hes so good why did Barca release him? Am not saying hes not good pls. If Nwakali is so wonderful why didnt Arsenal recall him? Am not saying hes not good either. They say Nwakali was Arsenals best on loan player even ahead of Jack Wilshere 2 seasons ago, yet Wilshere was called back but Nwakali wasnt. Does it mean Arsenal was stupid? Pls lets not get carried away just because of a friendly that had nothing at stake. Even me can score a goal against ATM in a match ATM does not consider crucial.

Stop playing politics NFF. We are not clamoring for their inclusion based on the match they had against Atletico Madrid, however, we have been clamoring for Nwakeli junior for a very long time.

For sure, coach Rohr and NFF did not do their job and they knew it that after the released of the 30 men list, it can never be changed according to the FIFA rule.

    So, they intentionally
Over looked some of our key players and included their players which means they don’t care. In the end, what we would hear from the NFF IS this, “We Will

Never Impose Super Eagles Players On Rohr”

They will continue to say the future is very bright and we have young players for the future. Who deceive who? Naija with their WAYO ATTITUDE.

Coach Rohr have no choice but to to include
    Musa Muhammed
    Nwakeli brothers and
    Usman Muhammed

In his final list if he really want to do well in Russia.

Enough is enough, NFF and coach Rohr should give us the best we are asking for. The future may be too late, let’s work on this year world cup. God bless Nigeria!!!

WORLD CUP IS FOR MEN NOT FOR BABIES. KELE NWAKALI IS A 19Y OLD LOANED TO 2ND DIV SIDE IN HOLLAND( NOT EVEN TOP LEAGUE IN EUROPE) TO GAIN EXPERIENCE. I DON’T KNOW HOW MANY COUNTRIES THAT ARE TAKING SUCH INEXPERIENCED PLAYERS TO W CUP. OFCOURSE HE DID WELL AGAINST ATLETICO, BUT LET’S NOT FORGET THAT THE MATCH WAS AN UNIMPORTANT HOLIDAY FRIENDLY TO THE ATLETICO BOYS AND THEY MAY NOT HAVE PLAYED WITH HIGHEST INTENSITY. THE INTENTION OF THAT MATCH WAS NEVER TO DISCOVER PLAYERS FOR WCUP. THAT SAID, I DONT WANT RHOR TO FALL FOR BANDWAGON SENTIMENTS AND MAKE WRONG DECISIONS. HIS 30 MAN LIST WAS ACCLAIMED BY MANY AS THE BEST WHEN IT WAS RELEASED. I DIDN’T SEE ANYBODY CLAMOUR FOR THE NWAKALIS OR ANY OF B TEAMERS THEN. NOT EVEN WHEN THEY WERE INVITED FOR B TEAM.
WHAT WE CAN INFER FROM THAT MATCH IS THAT THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT FOR THE EAGLES. LET’S NOT DISRUPT OUR WCUP PREPARATIONS WITH UNNECESSARY DISTRACTIONS.

    • Ayphillydegreat 6 months ago

WorldCup is for men!!! Once you’re good you’re old enough. The likes of Pele, Owen, even Messi made their WorldCup bow as teenagers. We all acclaimed the list when it came out because most of the regulars are there, but there are some names that begs discussion. I have no issues with the list. Meanwhile those four names deserves to be in camp in all ramifications. Even if it’s only to at least train with the main team, just like Kanu, Taribo and Babangida did in 1994. WorldCup only comes once every four years. How are we sure we will qualify in 2022? The WorldCup is not our birthright and if a good enough therefore he’s old enough IMHO.

**if a player is good enough he’s old enough**

      • Paschal 6 months ago

AY you never made all these clamour until this friendly. I think performance and club pedigree matters also. Mikel agu made team of the week several times in portugal before he left. Agbo is one of the best players in Belgium. I watched him play in Spain several times and hes not a player you can just ignore. The fact that they havent got enough game time in Eagles doesnt mean they arent good. How many impact has joel Obi had for Eagles in the past one year yet you are okay with him.

        • luomo 6 months ago

God bless u paschal, I dont understand Naija fans,Nwakali had a good game against a second string atletico madrid team whose main aim was more of honouring the agreement with the NFF rather than playing thier “A “game,do we all think if atletico went full throttle we will be able to see those displays by our B team,Nwakali that struggled to impress at VVV Venlo only to be sent back to the 2nd division is now seen as a sort of Messiah, now been compared to Agbo who had held his own in his own little way in the best league in the World and who was an ever present in a Standard liege team that has qualified for the Champions league..Thank God most of us ain’t gaffers cos I can imagine how disjointed the national team will be at all time if we invite and remove players at will

    • Paschal 6 months ago

Well said my brother. Super analysis. You have just brought an important point to my consciousness: Before the ATM match, who on earth clamoured for Nwakali and Usman? NOBODY !!! Its interesting. Methinks these guys will be most useful at the afcon next year, world cup is not a place for trying division two players and for trying a Musa Mohammed who couldnt pin down a shirt in Turkey and had to be offloaded to some obscure balkan country to play his football.

  • Paschal 6 months ago

    Well said @OLISAEKEZIE

  • I did say at the time that one of the drawbacks of the brilliantly planned and managed friendly against atletico madrid would be the ill-advised clamour for players to be included in the current Super Eagles camp – even if just to train with the team.

The time for such opinions is not now. Calling new players into the camp will only serve to destabilise the team and raise false hopes.

In Agu, Ogu, Etebo,Ndidi and Mikel, we have a strong, stable and capable collection to pick from, we need no other!

Regardless of approaches of other coaching crews in the past, other players should wait for their turn this time around.

    • Paschal 6 months ago

Thank you Deo for that emphatic position. That simply summarizes all my arguments above. God bless you.

  • Thanks guys for all your comments, but selecting a world cup squad is more than excelling in one friendly game. Your performance must be consistent every season and that makes you a complete player. If these guys were that good they won’t find themselves those leagues and division. Ihenacho and iwobi were very good examples of exciting youngsters that performed consistently, even man city include a buy back clause in his contract with Leicester city, that shows that they knows he has something in him. As good as Marcos Alonso is, he was not even considered for the Spanish provisional list, likewise wilshere, David Luis, Morata fabregas, etc. If all the guys were Nigerian and was excluded from the list, I believe some people would have been taking for the head of Rorh. The coaches knows more than us, they know the kind of players that suit their style, and it’s based on that that they will decide on which players to select. If Mourinho were to be appointed Barça coach today, am very sure he sell Messi or not successful with him cos he can’t work with a skillful player, that’s not his style. Let’s all support the decision of our coach, God bless Nigeria

  • Ayphillydegreat 6 months ago

I’m not saying they should go to the WorldCup. At least I saw them demonstrate some potential in that friendly. Agu has never performed well in a SuperEagles jersey. The fact that he never made any of the age grade teams says a lot. He was dropped by John Obuh, he was also dropped by SiaOne. Why is Agbo always a training material?? If he’s that good he should at least be playing in some of the past friendlies. At least I saw Kelechi and Chidiere against Juanfran, Gabi, Partey, Jan Oblak, Corrrea, Torres and the likes, that’s about 60percent of Atletico first 11. If Agu is good why was he benched since Shehu arrived at Bursaspor?? It doesn’t take more than one game to identify a true talent. When a player needs 3 to 5 matches to convince the fans, such a player is not good enough for the SuperEagles IMHO. Anyway that’s the power of the fans that makes the team more solid. According to reports Kelechi Nwakali has been called to camp to begin training with the team. If that’s true that’s a welcome development.

Hmmmmmm……..I love our usual passionate support for the Super eagles. My take: K. Nwakali I have known from his u17 days in Niger republic where they came 3rd during the u17 AFCON. His immense talents are not in doubt. This much has always been corroborated by his youth days coach – Mr. Emmanuel Amuneke.
He is obviously one for the future – AFCON 2019 qualifiers on my mind. Definitely not as part of the Russia 2018 list of 23. However, if the technical crew deem it fit, they could take him along as a non-registered player to the world cup for obvious future indelible experience that will definitely help him along the way. For the upcoming friendlies (DR Congo, England, and Czech Republic, he could also be allowed to TRAIN (train only but not play for obvious reasons) with the A team so he starts getting used to the set up. This is because he is way ahead of his class of 2015 golden eaglets. For other players like M. Usman,
    V. osimhen, C. Nwakali etc., I am aware that after Russia 2018 end July, some of the current players will retire, some will be deemed not measuring up to standards, and some will naturally fade out; so there will be room to integrate those that have what it takes. For now guys, let’s relax, support the team, pray for injury free grace for the yet to be named 23, and enjoy the world cup party with our team………..mark my words, K. Nwakali, all things being equal is the midfield maestro in waiting for the Qatar 2022 world cup squad. That’s the peak for the young precocious talent.

Atleti’s line up vs Marseille in the UEFA Europa Cup final
Oblak, Vrsaljo, Gimenez, Godin, L Hernandez, Correa, Saul, Gabi, Koke, Diego Costa, Griezmann.
PLEASE, for all the ‘experts’ clamouring for the inclusion of certain players that featured against Atleti’s recreational side, check how many of the starting xi played against our selected side.

“My real regret is that people talk about players not on the list than those on the list. This is not fair as we have many interesting players on that team as well”, Rohr further explained.

I so much love this coach. Always on point.
9ja are well blessed with much talented players, not all will go to WC on less FIFA say so. If any player was not invited or didn’t make it at last day.. Is a step up for the player to work harder and wait for another opportunity

  • Bomboy 6 months ago

Thank u @ Luomo for posting that. Let the internet coaches on this site shout as loud as they want while the coach focuses on the job he is paid to do. Instead of supporting him, they are trying to distract him. Of Mr. Rohr listens to the voices clamouring for certain players, his list will swell to 40. Kelechi’s time will come. Let the coach be!
