Nigeria 1-0 Ghana: Home-based Super Eagles pip Black Meteors in Uyo Stadium

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are the first winners of the Transformation Cup.

The home-based Eagles coached by Daniel Amokachi defeated the Black Meteors of Ghana 1-0 as the Akwa Ibom Stadium, Uyo was commissioned on Friday evening.

Stephen Keshi watched the game from the stand which was preceded by a colourful musical performances from various Nigerian super stars and musical groups.

President Goodluck Jonathan and Akwa Ibom State Governor Godswill Akpabio also addressed the crowd before the game.

The only goal of the game was scored by Emem Edouk in the 34th minute. The Dolphins star leapt high to nod home Solomon Kwambe’s cross. Nigeria 1-0 Ghana.

leading to this chance and two minute later,Opoku Kojo ran rings round Eagles centre back,Joseph Nathaniel, winning a freekick in the process.

In the 66th minute, Umar Zango went with a two-footed challenge on Mensah Emmanuel but was lucky not to be carded. Meanwhile Rabiu Ali is out for Pyagbara Christian.

Mfon Udoh fired a left-footed shot in the 68th minute but it was not going to trouble Ofori Richard in Ghana goal.

With 20 minutes to go, Edouk’s shot is gathered. Soon afterwards the crowd roars to a cheerful delight as Sokari produces a wonderful piece of skill and nine minutes later, Edouk’s cross from the left meets the feet of Udoh but his chipped effort hits the bar.

The resourceful Edouk continued to torment the Ghana defence and in the 86th minute, he controlled the ball well and his shot crashes the goal post and wide.

The Nigerian and Ghana players were presented with medals at the end of the game.
