Nigeria U-23s defenders might have to deal with Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the superstar has been included in Sweden’s provisional squad to take part at the 2016 Rio Olympics later this summer, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Ibrahimovic, 34, currently captaining Sweden’s team at Euro 2016 in France was named in the 35-man squad by coach Hakan Ericson at a media conference on Wednesday in Stockholm.
But Sweden’s U-21 coach Hakan Ericson says his hopes for the striker featuring at the tournament are not certain since the bullish striker is yet to confirm his participation but he wants to keep the chance.
The Swedes have been drawn against Colombia, Nigeria and Japan at the Olympics.
“In the initial phase we felt that those playing the Euros can’t double up, but I’ve had a talk with Zlatan,” Ericson said.
“It could be a new phase in his career; and Zlatan has said that he is willing to wait until after the Euros (to decide).
“I want to keep open the tiniest gap that might exist, because it would be fantastic to bring Zlatan.”
