NIGERIA’S game against Argentina in Port Alegre on Wednesday did not pass without incidents.
After the game, local television showed many fans from both sides that were arrested by Brazilian Police officers apparently for match ticket racketeering and other acts of lawlessness.
One footage showed a black man in a Super Eagles replica jersey being led away in handcuffs. Another one showed a group of white fans beating up a suspected white ticket thief before Police stepped in to lead the man away, also in handcuffs.
Yet another footage showed Police breaking up a group of thugs wearing Argentina replica jerseys trying to forment trouble. Two of them were hand-cuffed and driven away in the boot of a small van.
Port Alegre shares a Brazilian border with Argentina and many Argentine fans flooded into town for the Nigeria game in a manner that that a local paper, NH, described as the “Argentina Invasion.”
