Nigeria’s AFCON Qualifying Foes Seychelles Hold Madagascar In Cosafa Cup

By James Agberebi:
Nigeria’s next opponents on matchday two of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation qualifiers, Seychelles, played a 1-1 draw against Madagascar in their Group A fixture at the 2018 Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup in South Africa on Tuesday.

It was Seychelles’ second stalemate at this year’s edition following their 1-1 draw against Comoros in their first game.

Joatombo Bourahim gave Madagascar the lead on 24 minutes before Eric Mellie equalised for Seychelles to rescue a point for his side.

Currently on two points, Seychelles must now beat Mozambique in their last Group A game on Thursday to progress into the quarter-finals.

The Super Eagles will be guests to Seychelles in Group E on matchday two of the 2019 AFCON qualifiers in September, 2018.

While the Eagles are third with no point after losing 2-0 to South Africa in their opening game of the 2019 AFCON qualifiers, Seychelles are bottom following their 5-1 opening opening day loss away to Libya.

The COSAFA Cup is an international football competition consisting of national teams of member nations of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations.

In July 2017, it was reported that it would be hosted by Botswana in July 2018.  However, in February 2018, COSAFA announced that South Africa would host the competition.
