Super Falcons striker Perpetua Nkwocha has exclusively told completesportsnigeria.com that the Nigerian team are gearing up for their Women’s World Cup duties and have no fear whatsoever ahead of their opening game against Sweden.
The team coached by Edwin Okon will square up against Sweden in their Group D opener on Monday.
“The team is set for the World Cup. We want to thank Nigerians for their support so far,” the veteran striker told completesportsnigeria.com from Canada, the host country of the World Cup, on Thursday.
“We have never gone beyond the quarter-final stage at the senior World Cup but we have big ambitions and I believe that this time can get far.
“Thank you for your (Nigerians) prayers, I say Amen to them. My teammates are okay. We are not worried about our opponents.”
Nkwocha is a four-time winner of the CAF African Women’s Footballer of the Year award – in 2004, 2005, 2010 and 2011 – and has represented Nigeria in the 2003 and 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cups and the Olympic tournaments of 2000, 2004 and 2008.
She now plays for Swedish second division club, Clemensnäs IF.
