North Korea have won the eighth edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Papua New Guinea after coming from a goal down to beat France 3-1 in the final on Saturday.
It is North Korea’s second U-20 women’s World Cup title after winning their first in 2006 in Russia.
In the final at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby, France took the lead through Grace Geyoro in the 17th minute.
North Korea equalised in the 30th minute through Wi Jong Sim.
In the 55th minute, Kim Phyong Hwa scored the winning goal to give North Korea a 2-1 lead.
Jon So Yon sealed the win for North Korea after converting an 87th minute penalty to end the game 3-1.
Earlier on Saturday, Japan clinched the third place match following their 1-0 win against the Unites States of America thanks to Mami Ueno’s goal.
