NPFL: Enyimba, Pillars In Heavyweight Clash As Rangers, Rivers Chase Survival

By Johnny Edward:

Kano Pillars will kick off Sunday’s match day 32 of the Nigerian Professional Football League action when they travel to Calabar to face seven-time league champions Enyimba the clash of the round at the UJ Esuene stadium, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The Peoples Elephant are currently in fourth place in the NPFL log and a win at their adopted ground will bolster their chances of a continental ticket with seven games left to play.

Enyimba, unbeaten at home against tenth-placed Kano Pillars in the past 12 years, will be hoping to continue their impregnable home record this season in the NPFL.

Enyimba are aiming to win their 10th straight home match as they welcome the Kano side.

In Jos, league leaders Plateau United host relegation-threatened Shooting Stars who will seek to extend their unbeaten run to six games. 3SC hold the current longest unbeaten streak of five matches ahead of the fixture.
At the Sagamu stadium, second-placed MFM could take a giant step closer towards claiming the NPFL title if they beat neigbours Remo Stars on Sunday.

After seeing Monday’s result (a 3-2 win over Katsina United) go their way, the Olukoya Boys will close in on leaders Plateau United should the Jos side slip in their home clash against Shooting Stars this weekend.

At the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, last season’s runners-up Rivers United face a herculean task away to champions Rangers who must win this encounter to brighten their chances of surviving the drop. Rangers with one win in their last five games are 17th in the NPFL log.

In Umuahia, it will be fight to the finish when Abia Warriors take on FC IfeanyiUbah in an Eastern derby.

The reverse fixture ended 2-2 in Nnewi in March but Abia Warriors have recorded one win and four draws in their last five meetings.

In other fixtures, 19th-placed Gombe will aim for their tenth league win against visiting Lobi Stars FC while Katsina Utd host ABS. Niger Tornadoes travel to Lafia to take on Nasarawa United FC.

El-Kanemi Warriors FC will look to derail Akwa United’s title charge in Maiduguri just as Sunshine Stars will be targeting another shock away win in Bauchi against Wikki Tourists.
