Stephen Odey scored his 13th league goal of the season as MFM FC returned to the top of the table after a hard-fought 2-1 win against Abia Warriors at Agege Stadium in Wednesday's matchday 16 Nigeria Professional Football League clash, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Odey opened scoring in the fourth minute, meeting up Sikiru Olatunbosun's quick free-kick before placing the ball in the bottom left corner.

Olatunbosun doubled MFM's lead on 31 minutes, curling in a brilliant free-kick over Abia Warriors' wall which sailed into the top right corner.

In the 84th minute, Abia Warriors made it a nervy finish as Sunday Adetunji scored for Abia.

The win takes MFM's point to 30 after 16 games.

In Port Harcourt, Plateau United dropped to second after holding Rivers United to a 0-0 draw.

The draw was Plateau's third in their last six league games.

Plateau are on 29 points, one point off leaders MFM.

At the Lekan Salami Stadium, Shooting Stars put last Sunday's defeat to Nasarawa behind them as they pipped El Kanemi 1-0.

Merenini Junior's 47th minute goal secured the win for Shooting Stars.

Shooting Stars should have gone ahead in the ninth minute but Sunday Faleye's penalty was saved by George Michael.

Shooting Stars still went on to take the lead on 47 minutes thanks to Merenini Junior who took advantage of poor defensive play by the El-Kanemi defenders.

NPFL champions Rangers' poor run in the league continued as they were forced to a 1-1 draw by Remo Stars at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.

The Flying Antelopes got off to the best start after Daniel Etor gave them the lead in the 14th minute.

But Remo equalised in the 50th minute through Ekene Awazie.

Former league champions Kano Pillars were held to a 1-1 draw at the Sani Abacha Stadium by Nasarawa United.

Mubarak Said opened the scoring for Pillars in the 29th minute but ex-Pillars player Adamu Hassan equalised in the 58th minute for Nasarawa United.
