By Adeboye Amosu in Kano: MFM FC will face the home-based Super Eagles in the final of the Nigeria Professional Football League invitational tournament on Sunday after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Kano Pillars in a Group B clash on Friday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
All three teams in the group finished on two points each but the Olukoya Boys scaled through on goal difference having scored more goals than Akwa United and Pillars.
Adegboyega Adekunle got the game’s opening goal in the third minute, slamming the ball home from Stanley Okorom’s cross.
It was Adegboyega’s second goal of the competition.
Hassan Ibrahim dragged Pillars back into the contest by scoring the equalising goal in the 15th minute.
MFM FC nearly retook the lead 12 minutes after but Yusuf Mohammed palmed away Okorom’s fierce shot.
Pillars responded with a chance of their own in the 35th minute but Nyima Nwagua directed his shot off target.
Early in the second half, Nzube Anaezemba missed two chances for Kano Pillars.
His effort in the 47th minute was well saved by Folarin Abayomi, while he directed another wide three minutes later.
Junior Lokosa also wasted two glorious chances for Pillars who piled on the pressure late on but were unable to find the winner.
