MFM FC midfielder Chukwuka Onuwa believes the team can be proud of their performance at the just concluded Nigeria Professional Football League invitational tournament in Kano despite failing to lift the title, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The Olukoya Boys lost 3-2 in the final to the home-based Super Eagles at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday.
The Lagos club were trailing 3-2 in the encounter before scoring two late goals courtesy of Jonathan Zikiye and Chuka Nwaga.
They also finished top of their group ahead of hosts Kano Pillars and Federation Cup holders Akwa United.
“It was a good experience for us and we should be proud of our overall performance here in Kano,” Onuwa told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“Just like we did in the league, nobody gave us a chance here but we have succeeded in proving a lot of our doubters wrong again.
“Our target was to win the competition but we are happy we gave our best in the final against a quality and experienced team.”
The talented midfielder is also confident that his team will have a good campaign in the league next season.
“The future looks good for us going by our performance here. We came second last season and it will be good to go a step better,” he added.
“It will be good to win the league and we will work hard to achieve that.”
