By Adeboye Amosu: It promises to be a great Sunday of exciting actions in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) as clubs battle for crucial points that will improve their respective positions in the table, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
With champions and leaders Plateau United not in action due to their continental assignment, Kano Pillars have a chance to secure top position when they take on Go-Round FC at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
The Sai Masu Gida are unbeaten in their last seven games and will bank on their resourceful forward, Junior Lokosa, who have scored nine goals in 10 games for them in the NPFL this season to deliver the goods once again.
Third placed Lobi Stars will also have their eye on the top position when they take on Heartland at the Ifeanyiubah International Stadium, Nnewi.
The Pride of Benue are level on 17 points with Kano Pillars and will secure the top spot should they beat the Naze Millionaires and their rival lose or draw.
The hosts will hope for luck at their temporary home ground in Nnewi after they opted for the stadium following the suspension order placed on the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri by the League Management Company.
In Port Harcourt, sixth placed Rivers United will also look to improve their position in the table when they entertain FC Ifeanyiubah.
Stanley Eguma’s team picked their first away win of the season against Kwara United last weekend and now look good to bag another win against the visitors who have struggled to make an impact in the NPFL this term.
At the Akure Sports Complex, Sunshine Stars will tackle Enugu Rangers in what is expected to be an exciting fixture.
The game will pit Rangers head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, against his former employers.
Ogunbote is still well revered in Akure after guiding the Owena Waves to the semi-final of both CAF Confederation Cup and Champions League in early 2000’s.
Kwara United gaffer, John Obuh, will be under the spotlight when his side file out against home side, Abia Warriors, at the Krisdera Stadium Hotel, Omoku.
The former Flying Eagles coach has been handed a three-match ultimatum by his employers and defeat for his team in this game will further put him under scrutiny.
El-Kanemi Warriors and Niger Tornadoes will clash in the northern derby in Maiduguri, while Nasarawa United and Wikki Tourists will lock horns in another encounter between northern oppositions in Lafia.
