NPFL: Pillars Go Top With Rangers Draw, Enyimba Edge Sunshine; MFM Can’t Beat Lobi

By Adeboye Amosu: Kano Pillars moved to the summit of the Nigeria Professional Football League after a late Junior Lokosa strike helped them earn a vital 1-1 away draw against their hosts Enugu Rangers at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium on Sunday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The four-time champions sit at the top of the standings with 19 points and extended their unbeaten streak to seven games.

Godwin Aguda put the Flying Antelopes ahead four minutes before the interval, his second goal of the season.

The hosts looked on course to end Sai Masu Gida’s six-match unbeaten streak before Junior Lokosa netted the equaliser three minutes from time.

It was Lokosa’s ninth goal of the campaign.

In Calabar, Enyimba jumped from fourth to second position following a 2-1 win against Sunshine Stars.

Stephen Chukwude put the Aba giants ahead in the 12th minute. The forward pounced on a loose ball in the box and fired past Moses Ocheje.

Sunshine Stars levelled scores courtesy of an own goal by hosts’ captain Ifeanyi Anaemena five minutes after the break.

Anaemena atoned for his error when he scored the winner 20 minutes from time from Chukwude’s corner kick.

At the Kwara Sports Complex, Rivers United recorded the only away win of the day as they edged out their hosts Kwara United 1-0 courtesy of Chikere Osita’s 94th minute goal.

In another match day 10 fixture, MFM FC and Lobi Stars played out a 0-0 draw at the Agege Stadium.

Both teams had chances to win the game but were let down by their poor marksmanship.

Shaman Tanze headed the home team ahead in the 25th minute, while Martins Usule scored the equaliser three minutes before regulation time.

In the last fixture for the day, Yobe Desert Stars defeated El-Kanemi Warriors 2-0 at their adopted home ground, Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
