NPFL: Pillars Gun To Put Pressure On Lobi In Title Bid; Rangers, Akwa Clash In Enugu

By Adeboye Amosu:

Kano Pillars will look to close the gap on leaders Lobi Stars when they take on Katsina United in a Nigeria Professional Football League match-day 21 encounter at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

League leaders Lobi Stars have the weekend off as their opponent, Enyimba who have a continental engagement against CARA Brazzaville of Congo next Wednesday are putting finishing touches to their travel plans.

A win against third placed Katsina United who occupy third position in the table will see the Sai Masu Gida cut the gap between them and Lobi Stars to two points.

Former champions, Enugu Rangers will host Akwa United at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium in what is the standout fixture for the weekend.

Rangers who sit in sixth position in the table with 29 points have one point lead over their opponent who are a position behind them.

Both teams need to win the game to keep alive their title hopes.

Champions Plateau United who picked a valuable point in their rescheduled match-day 16 game against Akwa United in midweek will be up against Nasarawa United in Jos.

Nothing but maximum points in the encounter will enhance their chances of winning a consecutive title.

Sunshine Stars and Heartland, two teams who are in deep fight to escape the drop will clash at the Akure Sports Complex.

The hosts sit in 19th position, while Heartland occupy last place in the table.

At the Agege Stadium, MFM FC will entertain Abia Warriors, while Go Round and Wikki Tourists will clash in Omoku.

Fifth placed Niger Tornadoes have a chance to return to winning ways again after their nine-game unbeaten streak was ended last weekend by MFM when they host relegation haunted Kwara United at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna.

The game will pit Kwara United head coach, Abubakar Bala against his former employer.

In Maiduguri, El-Kanemi Warriors will take on Rivers United in a match they will go all out to win to ease their relegation fight.
