By Adeboye Amosu: Nigeria Professional Football League champions Plateau United maintained their impressive start to the season with a comfortable 2-0 win against Rivers United at the New Jos Stadium on Wednesday, Completesportsnigeria. com (CSN) reports.

Captain Elisha Golbe opened the scoring from a sublime free-kick in the 31st minute, while Emeka Umeh doubled the advantage on the hour mark following good work down the flank by Tosin Omoyele.

At the Agege Stadium, MFM recorded with their first win of the season against hard-fighting Kwara United courtesy of Adebayo Waheed’s 51st minute strike.

Seven-time NPFL champions Enyimba and Heartland ended their game in a 0-0 draw.

Lobi Stars recorded the only away win of match day two, edging out Enugu Rangers 2-1 at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium to pile pressure on handler of the Antelopes Gbenga Ogunbote.

Former Sunshine Stars striker Samad Kadiri stunned the home fans with with a brilliant finish in the 12th minute following a mix-up in the Rangers defence.

Despite ceaseless pressure by the hosts, another former Sunshine Stars player Ayo Saka added the second in the 71st minute with Chiamaka Madu reducing the deficit from the spot six minutes from time.

In Omoku, Go Round FC recorded their first ever win the NPFL with a shocking 1-0 victory against Akwa United.

Adelani Adesoun made history by becoming the first player to score for Go Round in the top flight with his 17th minute strike.

Former champions Kano Pillars dispatched northern rivals Nasarawa United 2-0 at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Junior Lokosa put the home team ahead in the 34th minute, his second goal of the season, while Ibrahim Alhassan added the second in the 63rd minute.

In another match day two fixture, Sunshine Stars beat Katsina United 2-1 in Akure.

The Owena Waves who started their campaign with a 0-0 away draw against Heartland on Sunday took the lead through Abiodun Joseph four minutes before the break.

They were however pegged back when Tasiu Lawal equalised for the visitors in the 63rd minute.

Sikiru Alimi however ensured the hosts went home with maximum points when he scored a penalty nine minutes from time.

Niger Tornadoes also beat FC IfeanyiUbah 2-1 at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja.

Former junior international Solomon Owello and Sunday Akinmoladun scored both goals for Tornadoes but Godwin Obaje, with his second of the season, got the Anambra Warriors only goal of the encounter .

Newly promoted club Yobe Desert Stars also enjoyed a successful outing following a 2-0 home win against Wikki Tourists.

Ali Aliyu netted the opener on the stroke of half time, while Philip Asuquo made the points safe with another goal on the hour mark.

El Kanemi Warriors also made their home advantage count by recording a 1-0 win against Abia Warriors with Bello Kofarmata making the difference in the game.
