NPFL: Title Chasers Face Tricky Ties, MFM Seek Redemption Vs Kwara United

The battle to the win the 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League title will get more intense this weekend with the title chasers facing tricky fixtures, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

League leaders, Lobi Stars who are chasing a first NPFL title will entertain seven-time champions Enugu Rangers at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi.

Solomon Ogbeide’s men lost 2-1 to champions Plateau United in a rescheduled matchday-17 encounter in Jos on Wednesday, their first in seven matches.

The Makurdi club also saw their lead at the top of the log reduced to one point following the defeat.

They defeated Enugu Rangers 2-1 in the reverse fixture at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium earlier in the season.

Third placed Kano Pillars will face northern rivals, Nasarawa United in Lafia.

The Sai Masu Gida are two points behind leaders Lobi Stars and will be keen to avoid defeat to keep up pace with the other challengers.

Champions Plateau United are up against Rivers United at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt, while Akwa United will host Go Round at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

Fourth placed Niger Tornadoes will be the guests of FC Ifeanyiubah in Nnewi.

Tornadoes are without a win in their last two games after MFM ended their nine-match unbeaten streak two weeks ago.

Sunshine Stars will take their survival battle to the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium where they will take on their hosts, Katsina United.

The Owena Waves defeated fellow strugglers 2-1in their last game and have bolstered their squad with the trio of Kunle Odunlami, Godbless Asamoah and Ajibola Otegbeye.

Kwara United and MFM will clash in Ilorin in what is expected to be a keenly contested tie.

The hosts are battling to avoid the drop, MFM who lost 1-0 at home to Abia Warriors in their last game will be desperate to avoid another defeat.

Abia Warriors and El-kanemi Warriors will also clash in another matchday-22 clash at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

The last fixture for the weekend is an all northern affair between Wikki Tourists and Yobe Desert Stars in Jos.
