Nigerian forward Anthony Nwakaeme went from villain to hero by scoring the winner for Hapoel Be’er Sheva who outclassed Bnei Yehuda 4-2 to defend the Israeli Super Cup on Thursday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Goals from Mohammad Ghadir, Toma Pekhar, Ben Sahar and Nwakaeme ensured the Camels retained the Super Cup which they won last before going on to defend the Israeli Premier League title and also claiming the Israeli Toto Cup.
Nwakaeme started the match and stole the headlines as he grabbed the winner after he had missed a 73rd minute penalty. His compatriot Ogu was also from start to finish in the nervy encounter.
Beer Sheva emerged League champions last season with the Nigerian duo playing vital roles for the team.
Nwakaeme won the Best Foreign Player in Israel award last season and was also his team’s top scorer with 18 goals.
After the game, both players wrote on their separate accounts on Facebook and Instagram. Ogu wrote: “God is the Greatest. Thank God for another title. SUPER CUP!!”
Nwakaeme posted on his Instagram: “One Goal, first Cup of the season SuperCup #PoseForTheGoal #GodIsTheGreatest #TN9.”
Next up for Hapoel Be’er Sheva is the UEFA Champions League play-offs first leg against Maribor next Wednesday.
