Odey Confident Nigeria Will Beat Benin; Hopes To Start, Score In Kano

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Super Eagles striker Stephen Odey has assured Nigerian fans that the team will qualify for the Africa Nations Championship in Kenya early next year, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The home-based Eagles were pipped 1-0 by the Squirrels of Benin Republic in the first leg of the qualifiers in Cotonou and will need to defeat the Beninoise by two goals to reach the competition.

“We’ll qualify for the CHAN, God willing,” Odey, who leads the Nigeria Professional Football League with 18 goals but did not start against Benin, told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“It is left for us to do our job and score the goals (two goals difference at least) that will be sufficient for us to qualify.

“Hopefully I will get my chances on Saturday. We want to be at the CHAN because after all it’s the Nations Cup even if for players based in Africa.”

Odey scored the only goal on Wednesday as the home-based Eagles defeated Kano Pillars 1-0 in a friendly ahead of Saturday’s return leg against Benin Republic in Kano.
