Odey: I’m Happy Scoring 8 Goals So Far, But It’s MFM FC Team Work

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Mountain of Fire and Miracles FC striker Steven Odey is excited about his eighth goal of the season in the Nigeria Professional Football League which he scored in Saturday's Matchday-13 fixture against Enyimba at the UJ Eusene Stadium, Calabar, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Odey was substituted in the second half of the game with a knee injury. The striker reflects on the fine run he is having for MFM FC when fielding questions from Completesportsnigeria.com.

"I thank God for how positive things have turned out so far this season. I'm happy I'm scoring but it's a team effort," Odey tells Completesportsnigeria.com.

He says of his eighth goal of the season scored against Enyimba in Calabar: "The pass from Chukwuka Onuwa was good. You're sure he will create chances for you as a striker. Sikiru Olatunbosun has been fantastic too.

"We work for each other. But my goal against Enyimba isn't my best so far. I'll pick my second goal of the season, the one against Lobi Stars as my favourite so far. The assist came from Adekunle Adegboyega."

Odey hopes to be a permanent feature in the Super Eagles someday, but he spares thoughts for the Super Eagles coaches who didn't consider him for the upcoming international friendlies against Senegal and Burkina Faso.

The forward discovered at the 2012 GT Principals Cup has been phenomenal for the MFM FC side and expectations were high that he will get invited for the tune up games later this month.

"Naturally, you will feel bad not to being in the national team, but I understand that we have so many players doing well at the same time," Odey states.

"However, I feel is that very soon I'll be there in the national team, there's no problem. I know that if I keep working hard for my club, the national team coaches will eventually give me a chance. I want to be as successful as the likes of late Rashidi Yekini, Nwankwo Kanu and others.

"There is a certain number of players that can be invited at a particular time. And if the coach has explained that he wants to try out new foreign-based players and he will still do same with players in the NPFL, it means I would have to keep working hard."

On his knee injury copped on Saturday, Odey states: "It is a minor knee injury. I don't think it will stop me from playing in our next game. I was feeling pains before I was substituted. I also took an elbow on my stomach."
