Mikel Obi made his 32nd appearance of the current season for Chelsea who slumped to a 3-2 defeat away to Sunderland, who moved out of the Premier League relegation zone on Saturday.
The Nigerian skipper who was below par in the encounter was replaced in the 83rd minute by Bertrand Traore at the Stadium of Light.
At the Boleyn Ground, Victor Moses played for 59 minutes in West Ham’s shock 4-1 loss to Swansea City.
Moses made way for Diafra Sakho in what was his 25th game of the season for the Hammers while his compatriot, Emmanuel Emenike, was introduced in the 77th minute for Cheikhou Kouyate in the defeat.
In the Championship, Carl Ikeme made his 35th appearance for Wolverhampton Wanderers in their 2-1 home win over Sheffield Wednesday.
In the German Bundesliga, Anthony Ujah came on for Levin Oztunali with 15 minutes left to play in Werder Bremen’s goalless draw away to his former team FC Cologne.
In Portugal, Chidozie Awaziem starred for the entire duration of FC Porto’s 3-1 win away to Rio Ave. It was the ninth appearance for the youngster who is expected to be named in Nigeria’s provisional squad for the Rio 2016 Olympics.
He was booked in the 30th minute of his side’s win.
In Scotland at the Tynecastle Stadium, Juwon Oshaniwa returned to Hearts’ starting line-up in their 1-1 draw at home to Ross County. He has made 19 Scottish Premiership starts this season.
In Norway, Chidiebere Nwakali continued his impressive run for IK Start in the clash against SK Brann. It was his eighth appearance this season.
In Finland, Nigerian duo of Nnamdi Oduamadi and Taye Taiwo were on target as HJK Helsinki defeated Pk 35 Vantaa 2-1 on Saturday. Oduamadi’s 58th minute opener was cancelled out by Aleksi Ristola nine minutes after, before Taiwo sealed the win for his side.
It was Oduamadi’s second goal of the season in four days and Taiwo’s first of the campaign.
At the KuPS Arena, Super Eagles trio of Gbolahan Salami, Azubuike Egwuekwe and Paul Onobi were all handed starting roles for Kuopion Palloseura who edged VPS 1-0.
In Turkey, Aminu Umar scored his seventh goal of the season for Osmanlispor FK who forced Bursaspor to a 3-3 draw.
The Super Eagles forward reduced the deficit to 3-2 in the 69th minute before CameroonIan international Pierre Webo earned the hosts a share of the spoils.
His compatriot, Raheem Lawal, was hauled off at half time for Pape Alioune Ndiaye.
