Sunshine Stars trio; Odunlami Kunle, Adeniji Tunde and Ezenwa Ikechukwu have expressed delight over their inclusion in the Super Eagles 21-man list drawn by Stephen Keshi to prosecute next Tuesday’s friendly match with Spotlight FC for the official opening of the Katsina Stadium as well as begin preparation for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Chad, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Odunlami, a central defender has been one of the top performers in the Nigerian league over the last three seasons.
He was a member of the 2013 Nations Cup-winning Super Eagles and the 2014 Eagles that won bronze at the CHAN tournament in South Africa under coach Stephen Keshi.
“I’m so excited with the recall to the Eagles, I think my patience and perseverance has paid off.
“I always know my time would come again and I’m grateful to God. I’ll not let my club and Nigeria down,” Odunlami told Completesportsnigeria.com
His teammate, Tunde Adeniji, a striker, also poured out his heart after getting his Super Eagles first invitation.
“I am so delighted for the callup. Hard work and diligence have earned me the callup and I will always appreciate this opportunity given to me by ODSFA boss for promoting me from Rising Stars to Sunshine Stars and here I am being called up to National team.
“I am very grateful to God,” said Adeniji who is Sunshine Stars leading scorer.
However, former U23 national team goalkeeper and Beijing 2008 Olympic Games soccer silver medalist, Ikechukwu Ezenwa attributed his recognition by Keshi to hard work.
“I never gave up, I kept working hard and kept putting in my best. I know what I can do so it is very possible for me to make the team, but first I have to prove myself in camp,” Ezenwa stressed.
Ezenwa has had career spells at Ocean Boys where he won the league title in 2006, Heartland, Sharks and Enugu Rangers.
Odunlami has played seven out of nine matches for Sunshine this season while Ezenwa has played six just as Adeniji has made eight appearances this term for the Akure outfit.
Odunlami would be hoping to win his 12th cap for the Super Eagles. It is Ezenwa’s first callup to the senior national team having played for the U20 and U23 teams in the past
