Ogu “Grateful” For Making Super Eagles World Cup Squad, Vows To Work Hard

By Adeboye Amosu

Nigeria midfielder John Ogu is delighted to be named in the country’s final 23-man squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, reports Completesportsnigeria. com

Ogu was among the players surprisingly dropped by former Super Eagles head coach, Stephen Keshi, from the squad that made it to the second round at the last World Cup in Brazil.

Barring injury or any unforseen circumstances, he will get the chance to make his first appearance at the mundial in Russia after he made the list released by Gernot Rohr on Sunday.

The Hapoel Be’er Sheva star also promised to give his all in Russia.

“Grateful to God to be in the 23 man list to represent my country in d World Cup. I want to use this medium to thank the @thenff and the Managers for their trust in me. And to all my brothers wishing me well out there. God bless you all. I promise you I will Fight for this Badge,” Ogu wrote on his Twitter handle.

The midfielder who impressed after coming in as a substitute at the start of the second half  in Saturday’s 2-1 friendly defeat to England will look to further stake a claim for a starting berth in the team when they take on Czech Republic in another test game on Wednesday.

Weldone John, since ur playing days in Portugal where you defy your club to represent this great nation and how the past managers have overlooked your potentials, this is your reward, use it well brother. People like you should be the mainstream player not the likes of Joel Obi or the depreciating Onazi. Keep it up bro, knocked the two slowpies outta out midfield.

It’s your time John Ogu.Potentially you are about one of the best eagles but limited and less revered for playing in the Israeli league.
However,my advice to you is to be more ambitious. You seem to be comfortable playing in Israel which has not made your international chances any good.
I hope our coaches should focus on the best players to help us get as far as we can get.Basing selections on club pedigree will do us no good in Russia because end of the day it’s performances on the pitch the world is looking at not what club a player represents.Meanwhile,on current form John Ogu alongside Ndidi are a few of Super eagles who featured prominently for their clubs.Wining the Israeli title and domestic league cup makes you a potential champion and this consistency has put you in good stead going to a global tournament as one of the fittest players among the 32 nations representing their countries.
We the super eagles fans are wishing you and the super eagles success in Russia.

  • Adeniyi thanks for this comment.

Ogu deserve to be part of starting eleven. Rohr should look inward and drop the likes of Onazi and obi

John ogu i think will be one of our outstanding players in russia, rohr should give him game time and he will excel because he is a good passer of the ball and thats what our team needs

OGU all the way go show your strength and skills and the EPL awaits you next season. Bro you worth it o.k….go shine ogu. Go shine super Eagles. OGU for everyone before any obi or Nazi

  • Nigeria best eleven against Croatia
    Goalkeeper.. Uzoho
    RWB Ebuehi
    RCB Balogun
    CB Ekong
    LCB OGU
LWB Moses..I have seen moses here for Chelsea..since he can fit both in Rwb and left..would rather sacrifice idowu than the exciting Ebuehi and of course I believe Moses is better as a wing back to cut some of his excesses…he keeps his discipline and organisation more while playing as a wing back
    CDM Ndidi
    CDM Etebo
    CM Mikel
    SS Iwobi
    CF simy

Yes bro, I go with your full submission.Replacing Ighola with Simmy against the tall and skillful Croatians is our best bet.The height of Simmy should be an asset to the team. With our wingers crosses to the centre , a good header of the ball like Simmy will create a defensive troubles for our opponent.Ighola always create offside for himself and without him backing the ball against the opponent ,he doesn’t seems to know what to do with the ball!!

As far as I am concerned the best midfielders to start are Mikel,Ndidi and John/Etebo…Onazi and Joel are just rat chasers on the pitch ,playing as if it’s our street ball here..kicking ball back to any direction he saw it coming from. Coach shouldn’t make that mistake in world cup..playing Onazi or Joel means selling our midfield ooo and that is the heart of football

  • I cherish his skills and ruggedness on the ball. He’s not easy to disposes on the field. I wish you and the entire team best of luck in Russia

That is my man right there. I love Ogu too much i just don’t why. He always ready to give it all any day any time.
I knew him since Keshi’s era. Bro Ogu, God is with you, this is your time use it well. God bless us all. God bless Nigeria!!!

  • I think John ogu would be good for a start in czech’s match on wednesday. I know for sure that Joel obi and onazi are too tired (out of phase) to be included in a word cup squad. onazi has a good history in the last world cup but Joel obi has never impressed this nation on any of his debut.so, I see no reason why his name is among the 23-man list to the world cup. John ogu, ndidi, and etebo are the best choice to play along side Mikel obi.
