Enyimba coach Gbenga Ogunbote is confident the former Nigeria Professional Football League champions can still finish in the top two at the end of the season, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Ogunbote made the assertion moments after the People Elephant were held to a 1-1 by Mountain of Fire Miracles FC in their Matchday 13 fixture at the UJ Eusene Stadium on Saturday.
"It is unfortunate that we are going through a troubled period but all we need is to calm down. we'll get the results,
we'll overcome it," the former Sunshine Stars said in his post-match interview on television.
Ogunbote refuses to accept that Enyimba have been poor against sides in the top half of the table.
"It is not completely true. If you look at the game today, it is not really the true reflection of the result. We have
an outstanding game on Wednesday before we take on ABS of Ilorin. We pray we get it right," Ogunbote added.
On ringing changes in their next game against FC IfeanyIubah on Wednesday, Ogunbote said: "It depends, you know. I can't decide on that now. I need to see the players in training. We have to get it right on Wednesday. We can still finish in the top two of the NPFL."
Enyimba are currently 11th in the NPFL table with 15 points from 12 games, six points off second-placed El-Kanemi Warriors.
On his part, MFM coach Fidelis Ilechukwu blamed defensive carelessness for Enyimba's equaliser through Ibrahim Mustapha after Stephen Odey had scored for the Lagos team.
"It was a little bit of carelessness and loss of concentration. We nearly got it right," Ilechukwu said.
On whether the terrible playing pitch of the UJ Eusene Stadium played any role in his team's inability to play their fluid brand of football, Ilechukwu's responded: "No I don"t think so. The team's character, improved officiating have made us a very strong team. We're good to go. The team's character and discipline will make us one of the teams to beat this season."
MFM's next NPFL match is a home game against leaders Plateau United on Match 19th at the Agege Stadium.
