Coach of Seven-time Nigerian champions, Enyimba, Gbenga Ogunbote lives in hope than expectation as the People's Elephant welcome eastern rivals, Enough Rangers International in a Nigeria Professional Football League matchday 17 fixture at UJ Esuene Stadium Calabar which headlines this Sunday's matches, Completesportsnigeria.com reports
Both sides are crossing each other's path in a competitive clash for the first time this season, but Enyimba coach, Gbenga Ogunbote informs Completesportsnigeria.com it will climax their four-week run of tough clashes against the nation's top four continental teams.
"We like to take it game by game, butplaying against Rangers on Sunday will climax our run of four continental teams," Ogunbote tells Completesportsnigeria.com as he looks forward to a cracking game against the Coal City Flying Antelopes.
"Except the match against MFM which came in-between, we've had the four teams that represented Nigeria in the CAF inter-club competitions in a stretch.
"We played FC Ifeanyiubah and won, played MFM – it ended in 1-1 draw), then Rivers United which we won 1-0 before traveling to Wikki Tourists of Bauchi which we lost 1-o.
"So, if you ask me, it has been a month of tough games, and we expect similar tough game against Rangers given their high profile in Nigeria and African football.
Rangers are current title holders, but perching perilously down the bottom side of the log does not tell good of a team that just won the league last season in an emphatic fashion.
Ogunbote's side, contrastingly, are eighth in the table with an ambition of going all the way to bag their eighth domestic league title this term.
Ogunbote however refuses to be cowed by Rangers' poor form and the sack threat on their coach, Imama Amakapabo.
"You call it oriental derby which means both teams know each other inside out," Ogunbote states.
"It then means the game will not follow form guide, but I hope we win".
Ogunbote is in his first season at Enyimba. That means he is overseeing the two-time African Champions for the first time in an oriental derby.
He says: "Yes, it is my first seson here, but I know local derbies are the same every where.
"Enyimba against Rangers, or any other fixture for that matter, is similar to Shooting Stars against Stationery Stores, Shooting against then Leventis United, Abiola Babes and all that.
"It will be a tough match but we are focusing on getting all the three points."
