Okagbare, Abugan, Asunmu, Qualify For 100m, 400m Finals

Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare on Monday night zoomed to the Athletics final of the women’s 100m of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Okagbare ran a time of 10.33 seconds while Gloria Asunmu came second in her semi-final race with a time of 11.25 seconds behind Veronica Campbell of Jamaica to also make it to the final of the 100m .

In the Men 100m semi finals races, American-born Mark Jelks was the fastest loser in the semi finals that he ran finishing in a time of 10.13 seconds.

However the duo of Marvadous Edwards and former national champion, Ogho Ogene Egwero, disappointed as they finished in the 7th and 8th positions in their respective contests.

Omolara Omotosho came third in the 400m race but could not enter the final with a time of 52.34 seconds as the fastest loser in one of the women’s 400m races.

Folashade Abugan however came third in 51.71 to make it to the final when she finished her contest which is her season best so far this season. Regina George came a disappointing sixth in the last of the 400m women race with a time of 53.48 seconds.

The finals of the 100m races in the men and women events comes up at 9.35pm tonight while the 400m final is scheduled for tomorrow evening.
