Okagbare Places 4th In Diamond League 100m

By Dare Esan:

Blessing Okagbare ran her first sub 11 seconds (10.97) of the season in the 100m to finish fourth at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Monaco.

She overcame a slow start to put herself in contention for the IAAF Diamond League points on offer but was unable to power past the trio of USA’s Torie Bowie who ran a new 10.80 personal best and world lead; Jamaica’s Veronica Campbell-Brown who ran 10.96 and Cote D’Ivoire’s Muriel Ahoure who was timed at 10.97.

It was really poetry in motion for the dark-skinned Bowie who now holds the fastest time in the world this year in the 100m and 200n (22.18).

Interestingly, Bowie outran Okagbare in Eugene, Oregon, USA at the Prefontaine classics to set the 200m world lead.

Okagbare will however be hoping for a better outing next weekend in Glasgow at the Commonwealth Games where she will spearhead Nigeria’s chase for medals.
