By Dare Esan:

Nigeria’s 100m and 200m record holder Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor will be seeking a redemption of sorts this evening when she takes to the track at the Stade de la Pontaise as the IAAF Diamond League train makes its eight of 14 stops in Lausanne, Switzerland, Completesportsngeria.com reports.

The Nigerian has failed to sustain the impressive form she started the outdoor season with which fetched her a 22.04 seconds world leading time in the 200m in Abilene,Texas,USA and an impressive 10.90 seconds 100m run in Doha,Qatar in early May at the opening leg of the meeting.

Since that 10.90 seconds run in Doha, the Nigerian has failed to break 11 seconds in the blue ribband event again, running 11.07 seconds at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene,Oregon,USA on May 26 to place seventh.

She immproved to fourth position in Oslo, Norway on June 7 but dropped to 11.12 in performance before dropping further in both position and performance three days later in Stockholm,Sweden (5th,11.29 seconds).

This evening a refreshed Okagbare-Ighoteguonor is expected to race back to reckoning from lane one where she will hope to break 11 seconds for the second time this season and speed past 2018 world leader in the event,Cote D’Ivoire’s Marie-Jose Ta Lou whose 10.85 seconds personal best run in Doha on May 4 is still the fastest time in the world this year.

Ta Lou will run from lane four while in between the Ivorian and the Nigerian will be Netherland’s Dafne Schippers (lane two) who is yet to duck inside 11 seconds this term and reigning Olympics double sprints queen,Elain Thompson of Jamaica who ran a personal season’s best of 10.93 seconds to place third in Doha.

In lane five will be reigning NCAA 100m queen,Aleia Hobbs of Louisiana State University while 2015 NCAA queen,Jenna Prandini will run from lane eight.

Reigning African 100m record holder at 10.78 seconds,Murielle Ahoure will be in lane six and home girl,Mujinga Kambundji completes the list and will run from lane seven.
