Okon: Why I Invited Nkwocha, Mbachu

–Says Falcons Needs their wealth of experience at the AWC

Super Falcons Coach Edwin Okon has explained that he invited veteran striker Perpetua Nkwocha (of Sunana SK, Sweden) for the African Women’s Championship (AWC) camp because of her wealth of experience.

According to Coach Okon, he needed the likes of Perpetua Nkwocha, Stella Mbachu and Precious Dede to bolster the team with their experience and add steel into the team.

“I invited Nkwocha because she is very important and experienced member of the Falcons. The younger players would benefit very well from her experience and tactics to help Nigeria to regain the AWC in Namibia” he stated.

Okon however warned that all the seven invited foreign based players must report to camp early enough to fight for a place in the final 21 member squad for Namibia adding that there will not be automatic place for any player in the team.

He said the era of players strolling into camp and still make the team is over, noting that only the best players would be selected to make the AWC team.

“There will be no sentiment in selecting the squad that will try to regain the title that was lost in Equatorial Guinea two years ago. There is no automatic shirt for anybody be it foreign or home based” he stressed.

He reiterated the resolve of the team to storm Namibia and bring the cup back to Nigeria adding that they want to go to the World Cup as African champions and do well.
