Oliseh: Eagles AFCON Ousting Is Sad One

James Agberebi:

Former Nigeria skipper Sunday Oliseh has expressed his sadness over the Super Eagles failure to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

The AFCON 1994 winning midfielder regrets that despite beating Congo in Pointe Noire, the Super Eagles still failed to finish the job against South Africa.

“A sad day for Nigerian Football. I really believed the decisive one was vs Congo, only For South Africa to spoil it. God knows why, believe me!,” Oliseh writes on his Twitter page.

Both South Africa and Congo qualified from group A and will take part in the 2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea, while Nigeria and Sudan have been eliminated.

It is time for a fresh start for Nigerian football. We have a new NFF board and president. Keshi should kindly resign and step aside. The has given his best, but the time is right for him to step aside.

  • Saddy 4 years ago

The pride of one man (Keshi) denied the entire nation fron being at the next Nations Cup. I am happy that he was called back to complete the mess he started thus publicize his incompetence. He is finished. let me see the country that will invite such an arrogant man to coach his national team.

  • Samuel 4 years ago

Yes it is time for Nigeria to rebuild our football Keshi should better leave now because he don’t have anything to say again, NFF should just being looking for a good sound foreign coach to revive our football.

  • Marsh 4 years ago

@Benue, please don’t talk about somebody resigning here, we lost the game because South Africa took their chances. Not whenever we lost then the slogan of Keshi’s resignation begins. When he won in Congo nobody said he should resign. My brother, this is football for you, you win some you lose some, you cannot win all the time. Nobody needs to tell him to resign, he will do it himself because he’s tired coaching in this kind of atmosphere.

  • Marsh 4 years ago

@Samuel, please keep quiet, who cares about your thought? all you people know is to call Keshi once eagles loses but you will not call him whenever we won. They played well but luck was against them, it happens in football so if you can’t take it then go and take sleeping pills because i have done that already to help myself. South Africa took there chances . We created more and better chances than South Africa but what happened?, we threw them away and we were punished.

Marsh when Keshi won in Congo what were your comments? Now you don’t want people to as him to resign. He should be sack period. It is people like you that made Keshi a god in the super eagles. The handwriting was on the wall right from the Confederation’s cup in Brazil but you and your likes would rather leave in utopia, a world where reality is never acknowledged but illusion, man know man, personal vendetta, dubious and atrocious players selection process, and public slander of unflinching players are vociferously supported.
Now that Keshi’s day dreaming is over you would still fight that he be retained. If he is sacked now go and retain him as the coach.

  • Marsh 4 years ago

@Toppal, what handwriting? Keshi has done what he’s supposed to do as a coach. Ike Uche, could not save the team abi? now you change course to my man know man and personal vendetta, please grow up and learn to accept defeat, Egypt could not qualify they have not killed themselves and they are still struggling so is not the first time a defending champion could not defend its trophy.

Stephen Keshi should start packing his things. You don’t apply sentiment while building a world class team.I said it before that Keshi will never succeed with the way he is going and just in a matter of weeks he will resign on his own.Mafia way of doing things brings about division, kills team spirit and encourages mediocrity. Good players were banned from the team for no just cause and below average players were given the national team shirt.Imagine Raheem Lawal in the midfield when we have creative midfielders like Sunday Mba and Kelechi Iheanocho.Stephen Keshi is not tactically equipped for the job of Super Eagles. His enemies dealt with him when they removed Sylvanus Okpala (The match reader ) who was the brain behind The Nation Cup victory.Of what use is Amokachi in that team?

    Long live Nigeria Super Eagles!!!!!!
    Farewell Mediocrity!
    Farewell Favouratism!!
    Farewell Vindictiveness!!!
    Farewell Questionable selections!!!!
    Farewell Keshi.
One love Nigerians, the Eagles will rise and soar again in a little while.

    @Marsh

Keshi has done his best, but it was not enough for the important project of qualifying the team for AFCON 2015. Keshi knows the right thing to do is honorably resign. If any coach that fails to qualify Nigeria in a 4 team group with the top two teams guaranteed to qualify, is allowed to continue it will be sad for Nigeria. It will mean our standards are now so low. Keshi had 6 games to qualify the team, but ultimately failed.

The last time Nigeria failed to qualify for the AFCON Siasia had only 4 out of 6 games to qualify the team in 4 team group with only 1st place guaranteed to going thru. Siasia was let go back in 2011. It will not make sense for Keshi to continue as coach. Now is the time for him to respectably do the right thing. I love Keshi but its now the end of the road.

@ Marsh, I’m baffled that you still have the “ogboju to come back and talk. Among the players that played today who were the ones that play meaningful football or contributed to Nigeria’s goals? Uche and Aluko! These were players Keshi stubbornly banned from the eagles until fans had to force him to call them. His mediocre players what did they do? Wobble and fumble. You want us to give you eshi’s score card ion almost 2 year?
Beat Venezuela, Bosnia, Sudan and Congo. Look at the teams that beat Keshi’s eagles: Jordan, Sudan, Congo (in Nigeria), USA, he could not even beat Iran, Mexico, Italy and list list goes on. What does that score card portray to you? Nothing but mediocrity! Keshi has simply taken eagles back to where he took them.
Did you see any definiet pattern in what the eagles played today? Even in Congo there was no defined pattern. They just balloon the ball to the opponent area hoping for miracle to happen. Is that what you call football? What do you expect from a coach who can make a bench warmer (Mikel)in his club the fulcrum of the team or player with log of wood (Eguweke) tied to his leg as a key defender in the eagles or continue to play with a make shift right back (Ambrose).
If not for Enyeama that keep the eagle in the race they would have long been out since the Congo match. We now your type, you are one of the Keshi maniacs on Kickoff that never allowed people to air their views. You have now come here with a different user name with the intention of doing same. Now that your Keshi has taken you to the kind of promise land you want at least we will hear word

In as much as I never lost hope in Super Eagles and will not lose hope, yesterday loss was a sad one. Honestly, I felt bad that we lost. I am not asking Keshi to resign or not. But I blame him for the loss. He lacks the technical ability to read games. The moment we were 2 goals down, I expected him to remove the likes of Emenike and Musa who were not not in the game and improve the strike force. Musa lost many chances. Why on earth will he bench Aluko and Samuel when you saw that they delivered in the last game. You do not gamble with important games like this. All the player were playing as if nothing was not at stake.
Now we are out. I will advice that NFF retires all the super eagles team now. Go and graduate the fresh boys from Under 17 and groom them to be our new team. I think Mikel and the likes have done enough for the team.

    ITS SAD.

  • Marsh 4 years ago

@ Toppal, what plans do you have for the future? do you think is about coming here to talk and argue football, people like you watch match in the beer parlour so i don’t have time for you.

  • Marsh 4 years ago

@SoccerInNigeria, i agree with you, i support Keshi to tender his resignation but people shouldn’t think that his resignation will change anything for the team. Everybody is complaining forgetting that you can’t give what you don’t have. Nobody has identified any problem yet, hiring a foreign coach is not panacea to the problem. We should identify the problem and then try to solve it, South Africa did it and it paid off for them. It’s not just the coach but i think this has to do with the whole entire football structure.

  • Gozzy 4 years ago

What a shame!!!! God will punish all of you that counts or recommed keshi’s effort

  • Chiffo 4 years ago

Keshi’s biggest undoing was the lack of a competent attacking midfielder, and we have surplus of them.
Ihanacho, Yahaya, Jordan Ibe, Sunday Mba, etc

Square pegs in round holes! why always improvise when you have the real stuff? Why not play Mikel as #4, behind two attacking midfielder maybe Yahaya, or Aluko and Iheanacho combination like in the junior team, is Chinedu Ogbuke Obasi no more clinical than musa?
The continued use of Ambrose as #2 instead of #5 as in Celtic, is crazy etc.
    Thanks and farewell Keshi.

  • EveryOne saying Keshi should resign don’t know football, Period. That Man is a proper Gaffer. We lost, but ask those players why they threw away those chances, get your facts right, football is a win and loose game, doesn’t make us a bad team, you guys yelled bring Ike Uche, i have been saying what is so special about him,is he that prolific like DROGBA? Okay you guys got IKE UCHE back, see where we find ourselves? infact some stupid fans are saying why not bring Victor Moses, oooo, so not inviting Moses is it again?, Moses needs a rest, despite playing for the club, you Keshi haters should look for someone to pour your fustration to, and let him be, you same guys are the reason Nigeria as a country is where it is today, vote for a credible leader, you people will still go and vote for leaders who have lead us before i was born. Who can coach in that kind of atmosphere Mr Keshi is sitting on, who? Please You guys should leave Mr Keshi Alone. Hes a true Legend, and a loyal man….

  • Good day Nigérians! It’s really sad that Nigeria did not qualify for the Africa Cup of nations scheduled for next year in Equatorial Guinea.
But I think It’s still not fair to cast down Stephen Kechi though he may resign or even be sacked.
This’s the same man that got us Afcon cup in the last Afcon tournament and we all celebrated him. We may employ the world best coach and still not be able to get the result that Kechi had gotten. That’s football ! Kechi still remains a good coach. Thanks. Eddy from France.
