Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has exclusively told Completesportsnigeria.com that Seattle Sounders forward Obafemi Martins must earn his place in the starting line-up after his recall to the national team.
The red-hot Martins who has scored 15 goals this season in the American Major League Soccer was handed a shock call-up to Eagles following Emmanuel Emenike’s retirement from the team.
And with Watford striker Odion Ighalo in a rich vein of form for his club, Oliseh insists the 31-year-old has healthy competition as to who will lead the attack.
“Martins will offer us some other qualities in attack but first he must earn his place in the team,” Oliseh briefly told Completesportsnigeria.com.
Oliseh then spoke about the home-based Eagles, assuring that theh will be better when they resume camping for next year’s African Nations Championship in Rwanda.
He said: “I was so impressed with the team’s play in the first leg and though I was not with the team in the second leg I was told they did brilliantly considering the hostility.”
Oliseh is expected to arrive in camp next weekend in preparation for the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Swaziland.
