Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo is poised to make his ninth straight start for CD Leganes in all competitions when they take on Getafe in a Southern Madrid derby on Friday night (tonight) at the Butarque, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The two clubs (Leganes and Getafe, just touching distance apart in Spain, have clashed in a derby in every division of Spanish football, with this weekend visitors, Getafe, the lastest winners at the Butarque Stadium last season.
Tonight’s encounter will be the third time they’ve met in the Spanish top flight and the Cucumbers Growers are out to get one over on their near neighbours in the La Liga having taken just a point from their two meetings last term.
Omeruo who had a slow start at the club when he arrived on a season loan deal from Chelsea in the summer, missed Leganes’ first seven games, but forced his way into the starting line-up since he made his debut coming on for Unai Bustinza in their 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano in October.
The 25-year-old defender, Omeruo and his Leganes teammates are targeting a fourth straight win in all competitions against Getafe having garnered 20 points from 14 games so far this season.
Omeruo has made six LaLiga starts in seven games for Leganes, helping them to keep three clean sheets and also show his readiness to help the Mauricio Pellegrino’s men maintain their impressive form in the Spanish Laliga.
Leganes recorded third straight wins – away in Madrid derby (midweek), seeing off Rayo Vallecano in the second leg of the Copa del Rey Round of 32 match and impressive 4-2 winners at Valladolid last weekend in the LaLiga. They also pipped Alaves 1-0.
“We don’t stop, derby game tomorrow,” Omeruo wrote on Instagram on Thursday ahead of the Southern Madrid derby clash.
