Onazi, Efe Plead: Don’t Write Us Off

–Vow to win remaining AFCON games

African champions Nigeria have promised to win their remaining four matches so as to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Super Eagles are now walking a tight rope as they have only recorded a point after two rounds of matches.

Congo lead Group A with six points, while South Africa are second on four points.

Next month, Nigeria face Sudan both home and away, before they take on Congo away from home in Pointe Noire and round up the qualifiers with a home game against Bafana Bafana in November.

Midfielder Ogenyi Onazi said the Eagles are determined to win their remaining four matches so as to defend their crown in Morocco in January.

“We have to win our remaining games now if we are to qualify for the competition. At this point, there’s no more home or away, we have to win all the games,” he said.

The barren draw capped a dismal start to the defense of the African crown they won last year in 2013, which has left fans of the Super Eagles hugely disappointed but Onazi says they still have to be grateful for the result.

“The draw was not we hoped for but we still have to thank God for getting a point.

“It now means we have to concentrate on winning the other games,” he added.

Celtic centre-half Efe Ambrose said they still have the hope of advancing to Morocco 2015.

“It was a difficult game against South Africa. They gave us a good fight, but we will still make sure we qualify for the Nations Cup,” assured the defender.

Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2012 Nations Cup hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

  • Useless mercenaries. We need players who will bleed green and lay it all down on the field for the glory of Nigeria. All talk and no action.

I think the keshi led technical crew have exhausted their technicality, Pls give SIASIA a chance, atleast during his days all these heart attack football came to a halt, good attacking football etc if not for the drew in abuja against guinea which was also caused by the absence of Enyeama Nigeria still would have qualified to the 2012 Nations cup. Am coming to believe that the success of our super eagles now lies in enyeama and not the coaches, when Coach lagar back drop Vincent enyeama for Ejide who what happened the Supper eagle was knocked out at the group stage, the list are endless. Pls give siasia a chance and better and hungry legs be invited, most of the players we have now have nothing at stake they believe they are keshi’s favourite with confirm shirt. We need change in NFF and change in SUPER EAGLE. Keshi set a record in Nigeria and also broke a record of 33 yrs of Nigeria without home defeat in nigeria. He need a break. Siasia or Olise i trust

  • These guys talk too much but nothing to show for it, or is it the media that’s writing all this jargons? Eagles should develop mental and physical strength.

NFF should better call back Samson Siasia because I don’t see any good football playing under this called KESHI since he took over, Super Eagles are just struggle all time, it is just only luck that made Keshi win last nation cup not that Super Eagles play better game, super eagles play better game under siasia, please NFF call Siasia back or Oliseh to take over. Keshi has try his best he should quit now…
