Onazi: Super Eagles Won’t Get Carried Away Vs Serbia

By David Meshioye:

Trabzonspor midfielder Onazi Ogenyi has told Nigerians to expect the best from the Super Eagles when they face Serbia in London on Tuesday, Completesportsnigeria.com can report.

In an exclusive chat with CSN on Sunday night, Onazi said the 1-0 win over Poland is in the past and that beating Serbia is achievable.

He said the Super Eagles are aware of the quality of Serbia given the pedigree of players like Nemanja Matic and Alexandre Kolarov in the side, but all hands will be on deck to make it two out of two for Nigeria in March friendlies.

“We bless God for the win over Poland even though it was a tough game. We have put that win behind us now and Serbia is next on our mind at the moment,” Onazi told CSN.

“Nigerians should rest assured that we won’t get carried away, Nigerians should continue to support us.”

A Victor Moses penalty was enough for the Super Eagles to see off Poland on Friday.

The problem with Super Eagles Is having a very good top striker !!..Ighalo is still not up to it and without such , we won’t get far at the world cup .Our defense is getting it right , so is our midfield but strikers are not giving us what we really want .Against Poland , none of our so called strikers was able to free themselves or shot at the goal throughout the duration of the match and certainly that is really poor for a world Cup bound team!!..therefore Fernando Adi should be invited , he is a solid striker , has the build and height to outsmart defenders .I believe he is a better choice than even Ajayi and Ighalo. Be that as it may be , let give him a chance and see what he can give us!!…..also Desser should be looked into .I know that GR has sentiment for those that help us to qualify for the world cup but the point is that what is his motive for going to the world cup ?..is it for sight seeing or winning the world cup ?…history now beckons on him to take the best in order to lift the world cup for the first time for Nigeria and indeed Africa !!

  • Somebody need to talk to Rohr about Cyril Dessers. He is a natural striker i have watched him on youtube and he impressed me. I agree with u steve that we need a dependable striker. All our striker dont know how to run into space or outsmart their markers and this is a problem. Iheanacho is only good when you send in a through ball on goal he cant create any goal out of nothing. Maybe they need to try Iwobi as central striker. But i believe Adi and Desser holds the key they are both sliky and can be dependable.
On the sentiment of taking those who qualified the country, I believe that is baldedash. A certain Emenalo Michael Chidi Nwanu and Efan Ekoku did not play a single game in the qualifiers but Ugbade and co were dropped for them so lets go with our best and forget sentiment. Dessers and Adi can make the difference.

That’s not a good judgement saying ADI is better than Ajayi and Ighalo. Both ADI and Ajayi have not been tested so we don’t know if they will blend with the team. Ighalo has proven his worth during the qualifiers and at present you can’t rate him againt ADI and Ajayi as he is tested and proven to be important in the squad. I hope ADI can be called as well and give a chance to show his worth but no need to compare anyone until they are measured on the same scale which in this case is the SE’s team.

@Emeka ask him,U pple amazed me alot, cos u watch a video of someone doesnt make him better than Ighalo.Have u Ighalo Video right from Watford and Chinese club. Those strikers u mention will floop if invited,I bet u.
Besides,Ighalo is our top strikers,He was not getting the ball from the midfielders,Please leave GR alone and let him do is job

Ighalo was immerse for the polish defenders to handle during the match. His hold up play was awesome and he worked hard for the team too. The biggest flop of the night was iheanacho who responsibility was to link the midfield and the attack which is failed woefully doing. His first touch was very bad and when dispossed of the ball is seem lazy to track back and hustle for the ball. Ighalo lacked passes to function better as a number nine. If iwobi was deployed behind ighalo he would have done better than iheanacho

  • Rohr Really Needs to call this Kid Kelechi Nwakali to the Super Eagles, After all Michael Owen broke into the English Squad at the Age of 18. Nwakali is really talented and will definitely give us better than what Joel Obi showed. https://youtu.be/l4KtBcF4Dfo

We are noticing all these flaws simply because of Mikel’s absence. If Mikel marshals our number 10, he will definitely supply passes to our attack and we will see the goodness of Ighalo et al.
