By David Meshioye: Super Eagles midfielder Onazi Ogenyi says he is not worried about the team’s Russia 2018 World Cup chances despite being pitted against superpowers Argentina in Group D, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The Trabzonspor star told CSN that he is anticipating a better campaign after Nigeria’s second round exit at the last World Cup in Brazil, adding that the current crop of players in the team look good enough to surpass that feat in Russia.
“I believe it will be a great World Cup for Nigeria by the special grace of God,” Onazi told CSN.
“We’re not losing any sleep, rather we are ready to do our bit by preparing well for the tournament, and leave everything in the hands of the Almighty.
“We have a great manager and his words of encouragement are more than enough to bring out the best in the players. Those friendly matches will help us a lot too. I strongly believe Nigeria will have a better World Cup campaign in Russia by the special grace of God.”
The Super Eagles will face Poland and Serbia in pre-World Cup friendlies later this month before further warm-up games against England, Czech Republic and Congo.
Nigeria are grouped alongside Argentina, Iceland and Croatia at Russia 2018.
