Onigbinde: I Believe Keshi’s Sabotage Story

Former Super Eagles coach, Chief Festus Adegboye Onigbinde, has supported coach Stephen Keshi’s claim that he was sabotaged by some people in the group games of the 2015 Nations Cup qualifiers.

Onigbinde, a respected FIFA and CAF Technical Adviser submitted that Keshi was speaking the minds of other coaches who faced similar situations when they handled the Eagles in the past.
He recalled that he was also once a victim of sabotage during the period he tutored the senior national team.

He stated that the issue has been prevalent in the team because of maladministration in the NFF. To stop this ugly trend, Onigbinde urges NFF to put strict measures in place to monitor the activities of its members and also coordinate players invited for national duty.

The Modakeke high chief also advised the Federation to assist Keshi investigate the allegations, stressing that sabotage is a serious problem that would undermine the development of football in the country, if not checked.

“The issue of sabotage is not new to Nigerian football. Keshi is a matured and experienced coach for him to make this statement public. This means he has full evidence to prove it. I had faced similar problems when I was the coach of the Eagles in the game against Cote d’Ivoire where I sensed sabotage by some players. I handled it in my own way” begins Onigbinde.

“Keshi should be able to put things in the right state if he wants to mention the names of the people behind this anomaly. It depends on him, Nigerian coaches will continue to face this problem if the NFF doesn’t put measures in place to monitor the activities of their members and players. Nigerian football needs to move forward,” he concluded.

You left good players out of the team and now you are shouting sabotage.Where is Mbah that helped you win the African nations cup?

  • AFOLABI DAVID 4 years ago

I DON`T UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU MEAN BY SABOTAGE BY THE NFF BOARD. HOW CAN THAT BE, PLS EXPLAIN BECAUSE I KNOW KESHI OS SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PLAYERS SELECTIONS AND INVITATION SO HOW CAN A PLAYER YOU GAVE A CHANCE TO PROVE HIMSELF SABOTAGE THE PERSON THAT GAVE HIM THAT OPPORTUNITY.

PLS LOOK FOR SOMETHING ELSE TO SAY AND STOP LOOK FOR FLIMSY EXCUSES. IF YOU HAD INVITED MARTIN, IHEANCHO OR UCHE BASED ON PUBLIC OPINION, I COULD AGREED WITH YOU THAT ONE OF THOSE ONE CAN USED AGAINST YOU BUT YOU CHOOSE THE PLAYERS YOURSELF SO STOP THIS NONSE TALK ON NEWSPAPER PAGES. YOU PLOTTED YOUR DOWN FALL BY YOUR MISS CONDUCT AND INSUBORDINATION TO YOUR EMPLOYERS. LEARN TO BE MORE WISE IN DEALING WITH ISSUES AND STOP RUNNING TO PRESS FOR EVERY SMALL ISSUE YOU CAN HANDLE WITH YOUR BOSS (NFF).

THOUGH YOU HAVE DONE YOUR BEST BUT I THINK IT IS TIME TO MOVE ON AS WE NEED A CHANGE WHICH IS THE ONLY THING THAT IS CONSTANT IN LIFE. GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND THE SUPER EAGLES. GOD BLESS NIGERIA.

      If you knew so much,
      And if they (NFF)
      Of coaching and team selection
      As you stated clearly that
      “Keshi plotted his downfall”
Why didn’t you or NFF win
A trophy for 19 years till
      Keshi came in?

i will always remember and respect keshi for leading nigeria to win afcon both as a captain/coach, and the second round in the world cup. any one that says keshi is not a great man should come and do his own lets see.

Keshi is really a good coach. Where I think his problems came from was that he could not apply the necessary technical input to get the required result in a stale situation. A good co achieve look at the happening in the first half of a match and think of the desired changes and technicality to make a difference. Also team selection is very important. Sentiment with players selections should be out of it if you really need to continue in your success ladder.. Respect for both the player and board member and coach alike should be reciprocal.

Keshi is really a good coach. Where I think his problems came from was that he could not apply the necessary technical input to get the required result in a stale situation. A good coach archives results by looking at the happening in the first half of a match and think of the desired changes and technicality to make a difference. From asener’s coach comment when played France in the last World Cup. What he said was that we had the players but lack style, technicality and pattern of play. Also team selection is very important. Sentiment with players selections should be out of it if you really need to continue in your success ladder.. Respect for both the player and board member and coach alike should be reciprocal.

In the area of SABO that could be true but there are more to that. The supposed players were not called for one cogent reasons most Nigerians know when it comes for the man Keshi. I still prefer Samson Siasia

Oga onigbede, since you were in his shoe b/f and the same thing happened to you.Thank God that you are a life, you can name those that sabotaged you at that time also. But come oga, how many years now that you live the office?

There is no sabotage caused by anyone but the one caused by the coaching crew. Pride, sentiment as well as selfishness are factors that will always stampede success. Keshi and his technical crew has what it takes to go beyond the sky but threw it away like a piece of rubbish. During his playing days, he was more arrogant (sorry to say). That was when the issue of mafia started in Eagles. So he should have expected that.

well, I won’t blame him because he was just a coach and not a manager. If he were a manager, then he would have known how to manage players. He kept quarreling with every player in the team and siting several excuses for their non inclusion in the team. Sir Alex Ferguson was able to manage Tevez, Runney, and other coaches managed the likes of Balloteli, Gatuzo, to mention a few. These players were and are more indiscipline than IK Uche, etc.

There was no continuity as different players were always used in almost all the games he played. He did not listen to the constructive advise of the public, his former team mates, former coaches like Amodu Shuaib, Chairman Christian Chukwu, Samson Siasia, etc.

Success is a team work. He should read the book titled 48 laws of power so that he can know how to lead and follow people so that when he will be given the opportunity to take the super eagles on a second missionary journey, he will not flop.

However, grace prevailed and he won the nations cup. That should not have caused pride in him but submission knowing that it was God who gave him that victory because the coaches and the teams before were better but there was no enough grace to see them through.

I wish people could be objective when they speak. How can someone give credence to a story like this? Sabotage! Haba! Let kids be kids; men be men and elders be elders. No one sabotaged Keshi; he simply wouldn’t listen to the vox de populi.

MAY GOD PUNISH KESHI FOR LIEING

  • Tomiwa 4 years ago

I think Keshi’s problem is that he achieved too soon. His mind set after winning the nations cup was to steady the ship and keep the players who won together. That will certainly not improve the team. Rather, he should contine to infuse better players in positions. I believe that if he is serious youngsters like Iheanacho and Sammy Ameobi must come into that medfield because that is where we lack right now. I dont know what has happened to the Onazi, Mikel and all of the midfielders, we need players who want to prove themselves and have a lot of class.

I love that fellow that say God should punish Keshi for lying. In fact, make thunder fire am. How can you talk of sabotage when you refuse to invite in-form players, you don’t listen to public opinion. And you are so arroyant. People shouldn’t mind that monkey with numerous tribal marks like a wounded leopard called Onigbide. Who sabotaged his efford during his reign as coach of the super eagles? How can you expect a coach that bank on luck to perform? Keshi and Onigbide are delusioned, they should go and commit suicide. Period.
