Paul Onobi is set to be dropped from Nigeria's 2017 African Nations Cup
qualifiers against Egypt in March over dropped form at 2016 CHAN, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The midfielder was hugely praised for his impressive performance for the Super Eagles in last year's FIFA 2018 World qualifying clash against Swaziland where he started ahead of Chelsea of England star, John Obi Mikel.
He was reportedly warned by the head coach of the side, Sunday Oliseh after
falling short of his usual standard in all the side's friendly fixtures ahead
of the African Nations Championship.
The Sunshine Stars player put up a below par showing at the CHAN and a top
official of the side informed Completesportsnigeria.com that his position is under threat as the coach is said to be considering other options.
''The boy (Paul Onobi) was no where his best in all our games at the CHAN,'' the official informed Completesportsnigeria.com.
''He got a big opportunity to shine in Rwanda , but he failed to utilise it.
''As it stands now, he might be dropped from the squad for the Egypt games as
the coaches seem now keen on looking at other players in his position.
''He was lucky to start all the games after he struggled in all the friendly
''There are other players who used to be regulars, but were dropped from the
starting line-up due to their poor showing in the friendlies."
