Onyekuru: I Turned Down Valencia To Remain With Galatasaray

By Adeboye Amosu:

Nigeria forward, Henry Onyekuru, has revealed that he turned interest from Spanish outfit, Valencia to remain with Turkish giants, Galatasaray, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Onyekuru is on loan at Galatasaray from English Premier League side, Everton.

He spent last season on loan at Belgian club, Anderlecht as he couldn’t get a work permit to play in the Premier League after joining Everton from another Belgian team, Eupen.

Reports in the past week have suggested Valencia were interested in paying Everton to terminate the temporary deal with the Turkish side and take the winger on a five-year deal.

The striker has however confirmed Valencia’s interest in him but insists but he is keen to stay with Galatasaray

“It is true that Valencia are interested in me,” Onyekuru told Fotomac .

“I liked this fact, but now I am a player of Galatasaray and I do not think this deal can take place.”

The 21-year-old has hit the ground running in pre-season for his loan club, scoring two goals in three games in preparation for the 2018/19 campaign.

And you think gala is bigger than Val. Nigerians hate challenges they like their comfort zone here okra soup will be eaten everyday.

  • He is a smart guy, he went to a place he can play week in week out. Above all to develop more with more game time. Olanrewaju kayode to girona is a case study!. Naija are just too fast to judge!.

This comment from Onyekuru is annoying. We have heard this over and over from Nigerian footballers turning down elite clubs for wee ones. When is this going to end!
Most recently Etebo moved from laliga to a championship club in England.Mikel turned down Valencia for Tianjin teda.Ighalo did likewise.End of the day it’s the national team that suffers from quality output from players playing at amateur level.
Nigeria is either struggling to qualify in a world cup group or getting kicked out in the second round because the players lacks the pedigree to go beyond the second round.
However, matches against the likes of France,Brazil,Argentina,Germany, Spain and many more all certain to come second best because players who feature for the above mentioned countries not only play for the elite leagues but the elite clubs. So complex will certainly set in that’s why we can’t compete as we lack the wherewithal.
Meanwhile,I would love to see upward movement of our footballers.Because if we are serious about making an impact in 2022 world cup we need to have players not only playing in the elite European leagues as well in the elite clubs.
    God bless Nigeria.
