Partey: Atletico Madrid Never Underrated Tough Super Eagles Team

By Kayode Ogundare in Uyo:

Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey admitted that the Los Rojiblancos respected their opponents and needed their wealth of experience to defeat the Super Eagles B team 3-2 in Tuesday’s GOTV Max Cup friendly at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Partey who had a torrid time curtailing Kelechi Nwakali and his elder brother Chidebere revealed that the watchword of Atletico of not underrating any opponents helped them secure the victory over the Nigerian team.

“It was a very good game and their fans were behind them which made them grow well into the game,” the Ghana international said during his post-match interview.

Zenith Ziva

“We did the right thing and we were able to get the victory. They are a good side.

“We have a philosophy of not underrating any team which helped us tonight.”

Nwakali Jnr gave the Super Eagles B team the lead in the 31st minute but Angel Correa restored parity for the newly crowned UEFA Europa League champions a minute later.

Substitute Fernando Torres made it 2-1 for Atletico Madrid, heading in a corner in the 64th minute before Usman Mohammed levelled scores for the Nigerian side after showing amazing skills in the box.

Borja Baston sealed the win for Atletico Madrid five minutes from time, firing in off a defence-splitting pass.

Oh my goodness. I just watched the highlight of the match and I will say kudos to Eagles team B. I have said it here times without number that this Nwakeli junior is what is lacking in the Super Eagles A team. The camera man showed coach Rohr immediately after Nwakeli junior scored th 1st goal of the match and Mr. Rohr was laughing. He knew that this guy has a huge talent.

How about the second goal? Hmm… That goal brought the memories of Jay Jay Okocha goal against Khan. That goal would called “KASALA” lol. It’s left to coach Rohr to make his decision on both Usman and Nwakeli Junior before it is to late.

For me, coach Salisu Yussuf killed the match. Why? He should have sub the goalkeeper and some of the defenders.

Africa coaches still have a long way to go.

Atletico Madrid used their experience to win the match period.

Experience really matter most and this is my concern about our main team that going to the world cup.

I can’t wait to see the final list. Coach Rohr is very smart though. Anything can still happen before the world cup. God bless Nigeria!!!

Kelechi Nwakali should be on his way to Russia with the super Eagles. The way he marks, dispossesses the opponent, dribbles, holds ball, sprays passes is second to none.

Kelechi nwakali should be invited to super Eagles team without further delay! Sublime and magical passes, a stunning and screamer goal getter. Coach Rohr hmmmm, kelechi is the truth because you and pinnick amaju can’t hid this talented player while uche agbo and mikel Agu are on our world cup list. Kelechi is better than Agbo and Agu mikel even john ogu. So Coach Rohr pls call him up with immediate effect please. It shows our so called scouts have been lazing about in Europe if they couldn’t spot real talent like kelechi. Usman and chidibere are talented.

I have mentioned mohammed Usman on this forum.
He was discovered in sokoto by Tijani babangida and went on to captain Niger tornadoes before representing Nigeria at the Olympics. He is a huge talent and was in the books of fc Barcelona a team he impressed while on trial before a failed deal. However his introduction in the second half changed the game his flair alongside Chidiebere’s who moved to the left side midfield where subbed Dayo ojo struggled gave Athletico something to worry about.
Meanwhile had Usman started ahead of Dayo Ojo and had Omoyele Started as the top striker we probably would have pulled a draw at least.Another player who was very impressive was Chidiebere Nwakali by what I saw in that game he is good enough for the main super eagles but this boys have to wait as they are apparently still young and should be gradually brought into the team.
Meanwhile this friendly game is good as it exposed hidden talents and against a team like Athletico Madrid, you can’t ask for a better opponent.

I was very disappointed with Thomas Partey’s attitude throughout the game. His fouls were unnecessary for a friendly. I don’t understand how a Ghanaian was showing his Spanish employers how much he disliked other Africans, and at that while in Nigeria. Partey was behaving like Athletico’s bodyguard in Africa, running about to injure his opponents to prove his loyalty to his club.
