Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has ruled out several key players from Sunday’s Manchester Derby following a string of injuries.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of the heavyweight clash against city rivals Manchester United, Pellegrini said:
“David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri, Fabian Delph and Gael Clichy will miss the derby. Maybe next week one or two of them can start working with the team.”
Pellegrini is however confident that these absences will not affect his team’s chances, even as he plays down the importance of the game to the Premier League title race.
“It’s not a game that decides the title. For the city it’s always a special game – it’s the same for the team and the manager,” he added.
“We can play in different ways and we can win. Kevin De Bruyne is not a striker but he could play as a striker if we need him to.”
