The Super Eagles returned to training on Thursday morning at their training camp in Austria, barely 24 hours after their 1-0 defeat to Czech Republic in Wednesday’s pre-World Cup warm-up game, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Head coach Gernot Rorh took charge of the training sessions as the team continue to find the perfect strategy after recording a second successive warm-up defeat following the 2-1 loss to England on June 2 at the Wembley Stadium in London.

Nigeria will play Croatia in their opening group game on June 16 before taking on World Cup debutants Iceland on the 22nd. The last group game will be against a Lionel Messi-led Argentina on June 26.

    Cheer-up boys! (Nothing spoil).
Quickly, I will add my opinion to those expressed but differently.
Crucify the Eagles as much as you desire, it won’t change anything.
Recall, I made a bold & indepth analysis on the team’s personnel infrastructure, pointing to two (2) areas that require overhaul: Goalkeeping & Central striker (Top 9).
I insisted that Eagles are not likely to win a match based on this.
However, I recommended goalkeeper Austin Ejide & Cyreal Dessers or Aaron, Ajayi Jr, Fernando Adi as ppl with killer instincts for the job.
I was castigated to high heavens & maligned much more that my critique deserved.
Today, the same people who swore, cursed and labelled me an AGENT are calling down fire & brimstone on the team, and on Gernot Rohr and SE inability to win friendlies.
So, they have lost their peace so soon?
I have an issue with such people because they only run on emotions.
    Facts are always verifiable.
I have followed the team’s development & progress in all matches, listened to Rohr’s interviews, analysed the reports of local & foreign media and the analyses of experts to re-evaluate the NEW Eagles.
Though the team’s handlers have insisted on going ahead wit the players used in the qualifiers, the advantage of building a bond & relative synergy is handy & vital to team’s harmony and performance.
Yes, there will be a few knocks, here and there, but all will support to strengthen & deepen team’s experience.
This Gernot Rohr team is solid, of top quality & good to go.
I hear fans cry about his tactics & failure to win friendlies.
    Hahahaha! It is laughable matter.
Is winning friendlies more important than building a team to challenge for the Trophy?
What many don’t understand is that Rohr has a hidden plan to WIN the World Cup Trophy with Nigeria.
Believe it or not, the Nff is right behind him to achieve the seemingly impossible feat.
I give Rohr 100% backing to shock the football WORLD, win the group D stage, get into the Quarters, Semis, then Finals where anything is possible.
The gaffer has the quality & antecedent to play in the finals, and wants to do so again on the biggest soccer stage.
Criticize me if you want to but am always spot on.
Next week, Saturday, June 16 – we see the emergence of an African Force, the NEW Super Eagles, dismantling Croatia with soccer artistry yet unseen from an all black team.
I urge Nigerians to stand behind this team not only because they are Nigerians, but because they have the mentality to win and would show it with great flair.
From Mikel Obi, Balogun, Troost-Ekong, Tyronne, Ogu, Etebo, Moses, Brian, Iwobi to Iheanacho hold the mystery that will produce a game of class, quality & magic.
You can bet on Eagles to win and top Group D because that is what Rohr seeks to achieve primarily.
    I am back..!
World Cup is here and Nigeria will Soar.
    Long live Nigeria.
    God bless the team!

      @ Kingmaker, welcome back.

Yes, I disagreed with you concerning Dessers and co and I still do. The reason is because if the coach listens to the clamouring of fans, his team will lose shape. While you were busy clamouring for the inclusion of Dessers, others were clamouring for Sadiq Umar, Lokosa, Junior Ajayi, Efe Abbrose, and most recently the Nwakali brothers, and many, many others!

It is not because of the abscence of these people that the Super Eagles have been underperforming. I am very sure that if you had brought in the Nwakali brothers, they would have also underperformed and those singing their praises now would have been the first to crucify them. Remember Joel Obi? Many fans on this forum said he was the missing link in the midfield, but now they are calling for his head. Same with Mikel Obi. They said we didn’t do well in previous friendlies because he was absent, now they are saying he is overweight and too slow!

The problem with the Super Eagles now is that their COLLECTIVE MENTALITY is not yet tuned to win games. They are not in the “killer mood”. That is why they only start fighting in the 2nd half after their opponents have gained the upper hand. If you bring in Messi right now, he will fall victim of this mentality. I sincerely hope that by the time they meet with Croatia, they will be in the killer mood. The SE has the potential to do well if only they stir up themselves. Cheers!

Seriously, the display of SE were not encouraging however, it gives confidence that changes are made as each games went by. Hadn’t been we lost to Poland and Serbia, thongs would have taken a better shape by now.
We got to notice our lapses because we lost these games(England and Czech).
I still believe the SE can respond well at the world cup. As said in another post, we need just five players to be on their toes again(Uzoho Mikel Moses Ekong and I halo) trust me things will take shape.
    Lastly, iwobi should a
Play a free role. Uzoho Ebuehi Ekong Balogun Idowu Ndidi Mikel Etebo/Ogu Iwobi Moses and Ighalo. Using Moses as a striker with Ighalo and iwobi playing a role, Mikel stabilizes Ogu does the marking Ndidi watch and support the defence. We are good to go.
But, where have you been all these while Kingmaker?

  • Mr vick 5 months ago

I believe that constructive critism brings out the best in a person and this also applies to the SE, i think all of us have been critising this team constructively and i believe this will yield a positive result in our beloved SE
    #i still believe
    #soar super eagles
    #the wing of african period

  • No excuses for the performances but anyone following Gernot Rohr knows he is playing a perfect mind game about the Eagles not being ready. They must stay humble. The spies are all over the team. Every team has a hidden jocker. Our real formation will show against Croatia. Lets continue to believe and support the team. Go Super Eagles.

Since November we’ve played six friendly games. Argentina, Poland, Serbia, DRC, England and Czech. We won two, draw one and lost 3(mostly narrow losses) if you ask me I think the SuperEagles have done reasonably well so far and as far as I know our preparations for the WorldCup has been nothing but fantastic.

In all reality, from my observations so far SuperEagles will have to play the games of their lives to come out of that group. Is it doable? Absolutely yes!! We do have the players for it. We don’t have superstars, but we have a team that can surprise the world. From all six friendlies I will rest my hopes on the game against Argentina, Poland and the second half vs England as the main positives going to the Mundial.

However, here are my recommendations. Ighalo can never be our top striker in Russia. If we want to score goals at the Mundial we can not put goalscoring hopes on Odion. He runs for the team and work hard for the team, but he provides no goal threat whatsoever. Iheanacho or Nwankwo should be starting against Croatia. Or use both in a 3-5-2 system.

Mikel should be deployed back to his trademark DM role as a deeplying playmaker pairing with Ndidi protecting the back four. Alexander the great Iwobi is our main attacking midfielder going to Russia. He should be playing ahead of Mikel in that midfield behind Iheanacho and Nwankwo.

Ebuehi should be playing ahead of Shehu in that defense. Against Argentina (before Ramadan) he outplayed Shehu. So who is fooling who? Tyrone should be starting against Croatia.

Finally I don’t think Idowu is better than Echiejile in that back four. If fit Uwa should be starting against Croatia. With his little cameo he demonstrate some poise and finesse way better than Idowu IMHO. My SuperEagles 11 against Croatia Uzoho, Ebuehi, Balogun, Ekong, Echiejile, Mikel, Ndidi, Iwobi, Moses, Iheanacho, Nwankwo. #FLY LIKE AN EAGLE INTO THE FUTURE#

I think we all have to look at what is the importance of friendly games?
The Super Eagles team that played the qualifiers are largely those playing the friendly games…so what could have gone wrong? In my opinion Nigerians have to be very patient.
I think what the coach did was to try different formations and see how the players can fit into it;the question now arises if he should be trying different formations in friendly matches?
The teams this same set of Super Eagles played in Africa; Algeria,Cameroon and Zambia do they play the same pattern as Iceland,Croatia and Argentina?
If they don’t play same pattern, should we be stuck with the same pattern we used in playing the African teams and use it in the world cup?
I agree with you we have not done badly.

    @Bomboy, @Walking, @Ayphillydegreat, @Emmexy77, @Kendo @Mr Vick, @Ogo, @Olu, @Pablo9ja, @Cj, @Fqtee, @Chika @Omo9ja, @deo et al..
    Thanks & much love.

I believe Nigeria fans will always share different opinions on same subject, not because they aren’t correct, but largely as a result of the angle from which they express their views.
Those lively debates on team’s friendlies & GR are chasing same objective which is Team Success.
As much as I hold the views that Super Eagles will soar, it is not on sentimental grounds, but largely from the Coach’s body language, technical depth, antecedents & pronouncements.
The antecedent of Coach Rohr is strong.
Besides, he wants to win something with Nigeria and has said so often.
He is so confident of his abilities to deliver with the present team, and it is no secret.
    Watch our qualifying matches again.
Watch the destruction of Argentina & the interviews he granted on French Radio, Galaxy TV in Russia, Canal+ Sports TV, etc about Super Eagles WC chances. Read the news.
These all go to explain one fact that the Coach has a hidden goal, and to make a point with the Super Eagles.
Amaju Pinnick had pleaded with the Coach not to lose to Argentina by all means at Krasnodar, Russia.
Fifa had mandated an inaguaral ceremonial match and chose Nigeria – Argentina contest. Pinnick might have sounded loud at fifa boardroom to explain why the choice of Nigeria, & not some other more fanciful heavy weights were picked for La Albiceleste.
The Coach assured the Nff boss that there was nothing to worry about, that his players can provide the win.. They did.
Only a Coach that knows his quality can guarantee a win against a 5th, fifa ranked team with a 50th ranked sub-saharan side.
At this point, Jorge Sampaole had rolled out names of an intimidating killer squad to face Nigeria.
It was all over global sports news.
It was a nightmare; it was meant to intimidate the SE.
Nigerians were jittery & hearts sunk in dispair knowing the quality of opposition before us.
    Today, all that is history.
La Albiceleste were broken & left Krasnodar bleeding profusely, badly hurt and humilated wit tail tucked between its legs.
Kun Aguero was taken on admission..
    It was a national embarrassment.
    The world took notice.
Rohr was scared, thereafter, because he had unwittingly exposed the strength of his team.
Don’t under rate the strength & abilities of the Super Eagles to deal with stubborn challenges.
Now, the Coach has been busy trying to sell dummies to the World about how disjointed, weak and unprepared the SE are, 10 days to their opening match. Accept that to your own hurt.
    Nff is at ease..
The second half technical inputs against England turned the game on its head, and troubled the English backline, which almost reversed the scoreline against the host.
Gereth Southgate was such a happy man when the referee sounded the closing whistle.
Rohr is the technical wizard with the magical wand hired by Nff to rebrand Eagles & put Nigeria back on the map of football’s elite class.
Rohr had vowed to take Eagles back amongst 1st five (5) ranked fifa teams in a record time as a personal target.
Relax, I am very confident that Super Eagles will devour Croatia, and go ahead to qualify well ahead of Argentina.
The guys to execute this coup de’ tat are right there with him in close camping.
Argentina are scared to their pants, read their players reactions to up-coming Nigeria’s match.
I am not here to attempt to force a horse to drink water from a stream.
You don’t have to believe my views.
But for those seeking assurances, be at rest, the tactics deployed to keep tactical information from spies were very successful.
Bet on Eagles, u can’t fail.
This SE will wowed the World.
    Godbless Nigeria.

That was well said. However friendly matches should be a spring to achieving success at the world cup. SE are far not ready. Formation and selection will be the key. The boys needs to up their game or face early exit. Iwobi should play be offered a free role while Mikel m Ndidi shields the defence. Ebuehi should replace shehu. A fighting spirit will spur us to challenge in the group stage atleast. Long live SE

WHAT EAGLES IS CAPABLE OF DOING AS A BIRD

Eagle is an extraordinarily endowed bird from God Almighty,
    Imagine some of their uncommon attributes that distinct them from other birds;
    1. Can fly higher than others
    2. Can see far from afar, unlike others
    3. Capable of coping with all climatic conditions when flying
    4. Feed on other birds flesh

Now, Super Eagles of Nigeria should see themselves portraying and displaying these aforementioned features of an eagle as a bird as they are about to start the main business in Russia. They must also put something at the back of their minds, pick leaning points in their past world cup qualifying games that took them to where they are today, so also they should individually learn and together as a team learn from their made mistakes in all warm up matches played till date.

Eagles as birds do fly higher than other birds. Super Eagles of Nigeria should also be ready irrespective of what is going to take them to fly above all group team opponents, irrespective of their names, skills and talents, victory must always be their watchword every time they are set to play any team and they must be ready to give what it takes to achieve it just as they did during the world cup qualifying series. It is equally vital to keep something in their minds that, their victories will bring two things, CONFIDENCE & JOY to the hearts of about 180 millions Nigerians watching across the globe.

Eagles as birds has the divine gift to see far from afar. Guys cultivate this feature and discover early enough the problems and prospects ahead of all your upcoming matches before hand because that will get you fully prepared and it will aid you to know what to do as at the time to do it and finally your victory will visit you with ease. Get your opponent video clips seat together as one team and watch after watching then go for a comprehensive and thorough analysis of your opponents strengths, opportunities, threats and finally their weaknesses, that will indeed help you tremendously to succeed.

Eagles as birds can cope with any climatic conditions. Flashing back to all your played international friendlies so far, you started all carelessly and with poor spirits and that was why you lost to Serbia, England and Czech Republic respectively. Now, learn that you must always start like a seriously starving Lion roaring around for scarce food and beat all your world cup opponents right from the first half to the end of the match without leaving any space for retreat to your success enemies.

Eagles feed on other birds flesh. My team, Super Eagles of Nigeria, face any team and make them your success food to make you wax more stronger as you fight along from the start of the tournament to the last match in the Mundia cultivate no respect for any team irrespective of their paraded stars, names are no longer the success determinant in nowadays football but the determination is the key to succeed in all games.

May the spirit of winning in football goes with you and you will receive help from above to conquer the un-conquerables and make the entire 180 Millions Nigerians proud of you, amen.

    Apedy.

@ kingmaker, thanks for giving a hot reading page. Truely I love your takes and faty discussion. I tell you, you have made it all: an average eagle who care to read your views and opinions we pick the last of his breath to fight for a win. Your sermon of eagle resurgencee will go a miles to inject fear on eagle oponents and fare eagle and supporters. How I wish that many others who passed coments will come to same level of a fertile heart bear in mind that readers were there. Above all please Kingmaker never withdraw your power stearing and creative coments supportive weapons to push our able eagle to a win. My take in regards to the 3-5-2 formation.
We must not make the mistake of playing
John Ogu in the back 3.He is so heavy and
Slow.We will be crucified by Croatia.Let us
Use experienced defenders in the back 3  like
Omeruo/Ekong/Balogun in the back 3.I believe
we will be alright with these back.A word is enough
    For the wise.
