Pillars Defender, Alimi: We Should End Poor Run By Beating MFM FC In Lagos

By Johnny Edward:

Home-based Super Eagles defender, Jamiu Alimi, says Kano Pillars FC players need to stand up and be counted to avoid an "unacceptable'' third successive away defeat when they take on MFM FC at the Agege Stadium on matchday-5 of the Nigeria Professional Football League, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Alimi is expected to make his second NPFL start for Pillars this season after returning to the starting line in their 1-0 loss defeat by Sunshine Stars of Akure.

"PIllars didn't play up to their standards" in the Akure and they can ill-afford another loss when they face a youthful MFM on Sunday," Alimi admitted during an interview with Completesportsnigeria.com in Ibadan where Kano Pillars  are presently camped, preparing for the clash with MFM FC in Lagos

"We don't have time to waste, and we have a few days to recover. We should make sure that we stand up and be counted on Sunday, we've got a big task of getting a good result in Lagos.

"I think [the confidence] does take a little knock in terms of our away form this season, but we take solace in the fact that we can win in Lagos considering the chances we created in the previous matches. We need to impose our game to end our poor away form,"

Alimi was also frustrated by the Kano Pillars  defeat at Sunshine, and the fact his late equaliser was ruled out for an offside.

He said: "The assistant referee says one of my teammates was in an offside position and that was why the goal didn't stand,"

Pillars are seventh in the NPFL log after four games. They won two games and lost two.

They will leave Ibadan for Lagos on Saturday for the match against MFM FC on Sunday.
