Pillars Edge Giwa 3-1, Retain Top Spot

Globacom Premier League title holders Kano Pillars maintained their leadership on the league table following their 3-1 victory against visiting Giwa United in a week 21 fixture.

Adamu Hassan put the Kano-based side in front in the 8th minute, but Shuaib Ibrahim equalized for Giwa in the 40th minute. Four minutes later, Ezekiel Mba restored the home team’s lead before Kabiru Umar secured all three points with an 85th minute penalty.

The win places Pillars on 37 points, four ahead of closest rivals and fellow northerners Nassarawa who defeated Taraba 2-0 with the goals coming from Ugochukwu Leonard (36th mins) and Olayinka Onaolapo (55th mins).

In Aba, former champions Enyimba overcame Sunshine Stars 2-0. Enyimba went in front in the 13th minute through Etor Daniel and then sealed all three points thanks to Markson Ojobo’s penalty kick in the added time.

In Port-Harcourt, Dolphins took full advantage of playing at home as they pipped Heartland 1-0, following an Ifeanyi Egwim 21st minute strike.

Other results are: Lobi 1-0 Crown, Sharks 2-0 Bayelsa, El-Kanemi 2-0 Warri Wolves, Nembe City 2-1 Rangers, Kaduna 3-2 Abia Warriors and Gombe 2-0 Akwa United.
