The draw ceremony for the 2018 edition of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup will be staged in Cairo, Egypt on Wednesday with the four Nigerian clubs expected to know their opponents in the preliminary round of both competitions, Completesportsnigeria.com reports. Plateau United who won the Nigeria Professional Football League title for the first time last season and second-placed MFM FC will compete in the lucrative CAF Champions League for the first time.
They have the difficult task of competing against some of the best clubs in Africa and also make history by becoming the second club from Nigeria after Enyimba to lift the title.
Three-time African champions Enyimba and Akwa United will vie for honours in the CAF Confederation Cup. Both will look to make history by becoming the first Nigerian team to win the competition.
The four clubs are currently participating in the NPFL invitational tournament in Kano, a competition designed to put them in proper shape for the new season and their continental assignments.
Wydad Casablanca of Morocco won the last edition of the CAF Champions League, while TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo are the holders of the Confederation Cup.
