Pre-Season Friendly Preview: Roma v Tottenham, Milan v Manchester United Pick Of Midweek Action

Italian and English clubs set to meet as they prepare for their respective domestic campaigns

With the World Cup celebrations barely over, there is no rest for the wicked as pre-season is already underway. And some of the elite clubs on the Old Continent are already gearing up for their league seasons with matches of huge international interest.

This coming week will see AS Roma take on Tottenham Hotspur. The next day see the clash of the giants, with former European champions AC Milan and Manchester United set to lock horns.

First things first

Before you go any further, head on over to the Oddsshark website, find your favourite betting agency and get your account up and running using your credit card. As a brand new customer and with some of Europe’s biggest leagues preparing for their curtain raiser, there should be a whole host of offers on the table.

Where should I be investing my money?

First on the cards is AS Roma v Tottenham on Wednesday, 25 July. Both clubs finished third in their respective league championship last season and will be looking to go one better this term and offer a sustained title challenge.

There looks to be precious little to choose between the two teams and that would look to be the reason they are at the same price to win the game. You can back either Roma or Tottenham to win the game at a price of 2.60, with a draw priced further out at 3.40, according to Oddsshark.

Neither club has had a particularly positive transfer window so far. The Italians have lost prize asset, Brazil goalkeeper Alisson to Liverpool, while Tottenham are yet to make a signing to bolster their squad – both sets of fans will surely grow restless if the situation does not improve soon.

Tottenham may well fancy their chances of snatching a result against an admittedly depleted Roma outfit. A 2-1 win for the London club is priced at 10.00 – that’s a ten-fold return on any investment.

And while you may not wish to be so bold as to bid on an exact score, you can instead choose to bet simply on a winning margin. At first, there is little to choose once again between the sides, with both Roma and Tottenham at 4.75 to win the game by a single goal.

Interestingly, the higher the potential winning margin, the shorter the price on the Italian outfit. Roma are at 7.00 to win by a two-goal margin while Tottenham are at 7.50, while the Italians are at 11.00 to win by three goals with Spurs much further out at 19.00

Odds: Roma (2.60), Tottenham (2.60), draw (3.40)

The next day sees two former Champions League winners lock horns, with AC Milan facing off against Manchester United. The Italian club are trying to restore themselves to former glories, while Mourinho and United will be looking to improve on last season’s second place finish in the Premier League and wrest the trophy from Manchester City’s grasp.

And United’s superior league form last season, not to mention their strength in depth, means they are the favourites to win this friendly match. You can back the Red Devils to walk away victorious at just 2.37, with Milan at the higher price of 2.80.

Milan have fallen away in recent years and it remains to be seen whether current boss Gennaro Gattuso really is the man to turn the club around in its current state. A 3-1 win for United in this match is priced competitively at 17.00 – that means just a US% dollar bet would lead to a US$85 potential pay out.

For United, this is the kind of game, despite only being a friendly, that they will be expecting to win as they look to hit the ground running in pre-season. And if you think United will dominate and win both halves, you can back them to do just that at a price of 8.00.

Milan’s current side is based largely on a youthful spine, with the likes of Gianluigi Donnarumma, Alessio Romagnoli and Patrick Cutrone all likely to feature. Whether they will be able to deal with the experience and guile of this United side is another matter entirely.

Given United’s superiority, we could well see goals in this one. Under two goals in the game is at the relatively high price of 4.33, with two or three goals coming in at 2.10 and over three goals at 2.50 – both latter options offering you the chance to more than double your money.

Odds: Milan (2.80), Manchester United (2.37), draw (3.50)
