PROUDLY NIGERIAN! NBA Star Oladipo Adores Nigeria As Best Jollof Rice Nation

By Johnny Edward:

Indiana Pacers' point guard, Victor Oladipo, is proud to be a Nigerian despite not featuring for his the country's basketball team, D'Tigers, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Oladipo was named the Most Valuable player in Saturday's 2017 NBA Africa Game between Team Africa and Team World at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg which the latter won 108-97.

The 25 year old who scored 28 points, made nine rebounds and provided five assists during the game told the NBA.com in a short video posted on Twitter that winning the MVP is a feat he won't forget in a hurry.

"It’s something that I will never forget, winning the MVP," Oladipo began during the interview with NBA.com.

"I’m just happy to be here to experience it. This country (South Africa) is huge. I had an awesome time and we did a great job trying to encourage the youths.”

"Representing Nigeria means everything to me. Green white green is what I bleed and I'm proud of it."

The former Orlando Magic and Oklahoma City Thunder star reveals another 'special'  reason to proud being a Nigerian – he loves it that Nigeria makes the best Jollof Rice in Africa, and it's on record.

"Like I told everybody before the game (2017 NBA Africa Game between Team Africa and Team World) Nigeria has the best jollof," Oladipo boasts with a grin.

Last month, a Jollof Festival was held in Washington DC, United States, and it featured teams representing African countries like Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Sierra Leone, Liberia competing for which African country prepares the best Jollof Rice.

According to online reports, over 600 people then went through a blind tasting to decide the winner, a Nigerian Atinuke Ogunsalu.

Ogunsalu beat her West African counterparts from Ghana, Senegal, Cameroon and Liberia to the top prize.

She was rewarded with the sum of $1000 and her triumph will see her take up a chef role at Jollof Caviar, an upcoming African fusion restaurant launching in Washington DC in 2019.
