Prove Moses Is a Cheat

Prove Moses Is a Cheat

–English FA wants Swansea boss to clarify claim

The FA have asked Swansea manager Garry Monk to explain his post-match comments after Sunday’s defeat at Stoke.

Monk labelled Victor Moses a “cheat” after the Stoke winger took a tumble under pressure from Angel Rangel, with referee Michael Oliver awarding a spot-kick.

And now the FA have begun the process of possibly charging Monk for his comments, who has until Monday to reply.

After the defeat, the Swans boss said: “It is a disgraceful decision. So blatant, so obvious. He should be punished. He is cheating. He has cheated the ref. It was a game-changing moment.

“It is a disgusting decision. How he can’t see it as a blatant dive is beyond me. It is clear cheating.

“One of the most blatant dives you can see and Moses should be ashamed of himself.
“I wouldn’t show my face to my family if I’d done that. It’s a disgrace and he should be punished.”

Meanwhile Mark Hughes has backed the FA’s probe into Monk and insisted that Moses is no cheat.

The Stoke manager also said he hoped officials would not have their impression of his winger swayed by the media attention.

‘It’s right that the FA have to ask for Garry’s comments,’ said Hughes. ‘I made my feelings known at the end of the game. We have a strongly held view.

‘Now it’s up to them whether to take it further. It’s disappointing as it overshadowed our performance.

‘Garry’s a very articulate young man and on this occasion maybe used the wrong words. That can happen. Victor said he felt contact and was impeded, just as I thought.’

Hughes insisted the furore should not dictate observer’s impressions of the 23-year-old – including referees.

‘Victor is a very strong-minded player and will get on with business of playing well for Stoke City,’ he said. ‘I hope this week doesn’t shape people’s view of him. What was said of him wasn’t correct.’
