–Eagles star may score his 3rd EPL goal tonight
Tony Pulis has slammed the door shut on £10m record signing Brown Ideye being sold this season.
Albion pulled the plug on a January deadline-day switch to Qatari club Al Gharafa after their own move for West Ham’s Carlton Cole collapsed.
With the Qatari transfer window not shutting until a week on Wednesday, there remained the chance for a deal to be revived.
But Pulis, whose team host Swansea tonight, said: “If he goes we’ve only got Saido (Berahino) and Victor (Anichebe) as our two centre forwards so we can’t let anyone else go.”
The Nigeria international netted only his second Premier League goal since arriving from Dynamo Kiev in the summer in Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Burnley.
Now Pulis wants to see the struggling forward to make the most of his second chance and finally hit the goal trail.
He said: “He’s got a great opportunity now to play some games and we were very pleased to see him score.
“If you could have picked one player on the pitch to score it would certainly have been Brownie because of the pressure it takes off him.
“He’s a good lad. He’s got a great character and a smile on his face each day and he works hard.
“What he has to do is put the ball in the back of the net because irrespective of what we talk about, they get judged on what they do on the pitch.
“The chances he’s had – and he’s had some very good opportunities – he hasn’t taken and he has to put that right.
“Hopefully the goal on Sunday will take that weight off his shoulders and if chances do fall for him, fingers crossed he will smash them into the back of the net.”
