Quadri: How I Defeated ‎Ghana’s Abrefa To Reach ITTF Africa Semis

By Hanifat Mustapha: Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri has explained how he got his match preparation right aand confounded hard-fighting Derek Abrefa of Ghana in their  Friday’s  quarter-final game of the ongoing ITTF Africa Championship in Kenya.
Quadri seeded in number two bagged a convincing  4-0 win over Abrefa .
The 30 year explains how Derek’s performance in the encounter with Egypt’s Assar Omar triggered his ability to defeat him.
“Yesterday (Thursday) , Derek Abrefa nearly beat Omar Assar and I think that was a a wake up call for me and my quarter-final match against him. I must also say that it has not been very easy but day by day I think I am getting used to the environment,” Quadri told ITTF.com.
“It was really difficult to play here in Nairobi because of the altitude, but I could see already in the last match that I was able to do better than yesterday. I think I’m getting better.
Speaking ahead of his Semi-finalinal clash, Quadri look forward to defeating Egypt’s Ahmed Saleh on Saturday.
“I have played against Ahmed Saleh before and has been a 50:50. The Semi Final will also be 50:50 because of the level of our play. In all, it is a lot strange the altitude is very high. if we had been here two weeks or a month before we could have acclimatized. It is really affecting the players and our performance.”
Earlier on Friday, Aruna Quadri’s Nigeria colleague, Segun Toriola, was knocked out of the tournament  by Congo’s Idowu Saheed who won 4-2.
